Draco Malfoy wasn't the type to get flustered. He was composed, confident, and always knew what he wanted. But when it came to Harry Potter, all of that flew out the window.
It had been months since they'd returned to Hogwarts for their eighth year, and much to Draco's surprise, he and Harry had somehow managed to become... well, something resembling friends. They studied together occasionally, exchanged polite nods in the corridors, and had even shared a few laughs. It was easy to fall into this new dynamic after all the tension between them had dissipated post-war.
But Draco had a problem. A very specific, Potter-shaped problem.
He liked Harry. More than liked him, actually. And it was driving him mad.
So, when Draco had caught himself once again staring at Harry during breakfast-watching the way his messy hair fell into his eyes, or how he smiled at something Granger had said-he decided that enough was enough. He needed to do something about this, even if it made him feel like he was walking into enemy territory all over again.
He wasn't going to confess outright, of course. Draco Malfoy didn't just pour his heart out. But he could be subtle. He could be smooth. He'd ask Harry to do something casual, something low-stakes. That way, if it went wrong, he could always pretend it was just an innocent invitation.
Yes, that was a solid plan.
Later that day, Draco found Harry sitting by the lake, wrapped up in his usual Gryffindor scarf, reading a book. It was a surprisingly peaceful scene, and for a brief moment, Draco hesitated. But then Harry looked up, meeting Draco's eyes with a small, friendly smile.
"Hey, Malfoy. What's up?"
Draco's heart skipped a beat, but he forced himself to remain calm. "Potter. I was wondering if you'd like to go out for a drink this weekend. There's a new café in Hogsmeade I've heard good things about."
It was casual. Cool. Not at all suspicious.
Harry blinked, seeming pleasantly surprised. "Oh, yeah. That sounds nice, actually. I've been meaning to check out Hogsmeade again."
Draco felt a surge of relief and allowed himself a small smile. "Great. How about Saturday?"
Harry nodded, completely oblivious to the fact that he had just agreed to go on a date with Draco Malfoy. "Saturday works for me. I'll see you then."
Draco's heart was pounding in his chest as he turned to walk away, but he couldn't wipe the smirk off his face. This was perfect. They were going on a date. It was happening. And the best part? Harry didn't even realize it yet.
Saturday arrived, and Draco was both nervous and excited as he made his way to the Hogsmeade gates. He'd spent more time than usual making sure he looked good, dressing in well-fitted, dark winter robes and making sure his hair was perfectly styled. After all, this was technically a date, even if Harry didn't know it yet.
When he arrived at the meeting spot, Harry was already there, leaning against the gates with his hands shoved in his pockets. He looked casual, dressed in his usual slightly rumpled style, but there was something about him that made Draco's heart do that irritating fluttery thing again.
"Ready to go?" Harry asked with a grin.
Draco nodded, trying to keep his cool. "Of course."
They made their way into the village, the crisp autumn air making their breath fog in front of them as they walked. The streets were bustling with students, but Draco barely noticed anyone else. His focus was entirely on Harry-on how easy it was to talk to him now, how comfortable they'd become around each other.
