Draco Malfoy had always prided himself on his ability to navigate any situation with ease, especially when it came to his feelings. His entire life had been about control-keeping his emotions under wraps, presenting a perfect facade to the world, and, of course, maintaining his own private inner life that no one, least of all Harry Potter, would ever discover.
But that all changed when an unfortunate twist of fate left Draco with an enchanted necklace-a cursed necklace, to be more precise.
It had started out as a routine trip to Hogsmeade. Draco had been browsing a small, dusty shop filled with magical curiosities, searching for a gift for his mother, when the necklace had caught his eye. It was a simple silver chain with a small crystal pendant that shimmered faintly. The shopkeeper had been eager to sell it to him, insisting it was just an ordinary piece of jewelry with "minor magical properties."
Draco, in hindsight, should have been more suspicious. But he'd purchased it without a second thought. It wasn't until he had returned to Hogwarts and put it on that he realized something was very, very wrong.
The necklace glowed every time he told a lie.
At first, Draco thought it was some kind of joke. But after several failed attempts to remove it, he had quickly realized the truth: he was stuck with this cursed piece of jewelry, and now, every time he told even the smallest lie, the pendant would light up like a beacon, giving him away instantly.
And the worst part? Draco had become very accustomed to lying to one person in particular: his roommate, Harry Potter.
Draco had always struggled with his feelings for Harry. Ever since the end of the war, when they had been forced to share a dorm in their eighth year, Draco had found himself increasingly drawn to Harry. At first, it had been a mild curiosity-wanting to understand the boy who had been his rival for so long. But over time, that curiosity had turned into something else. Something far more complicated.
The problem was that lying to Harry had become second nature. Every time Harry asked him something personal, every time Harry got too close or asked Draco how he was feeling, Draco would brush him off with a quick lie, pretending that everything was fine, that there was no tension between them, that he didn't spend every waking moment thinking about Harry in ways he really, really shouldn't.
But now, with the cursed necklace glowing every time he told a lie, Draco was in a constant state of panic.
It had been a week since Draco had gotten the necklace, and so far, he had managed to avoid any major disasters. He had learned to speak very carefully around Harry, choosing his words with precision and avoiding any questions that might force him to lie.
But today, everything was falling apart.
Harry was sitting across from Draco in their dorm room, flipping through one of his textbooks while casually chatting about their upcoming Potions essay. Draco was pretending to study as well, but his mind was elsewhere-namely, on the necklace that hung around his neck, the cursed pendant that could ruin everything at any moment.
"So," Harry said, glancing up from his book with a curious expression, "you've been acting a bit weird lately. Something going on?"
Draco froze, his heart skipping a beat. Of course Harry had noticed.
"No," Draco said quickly, his voice calm but clipped. "Nothing's wrong."
Immediately, the pendant around his neck began to glow softly, casting a faint light across his chest.
Harry frowned, his eyes flicking to the glowing pendant. "Uh... your necklace is glowing."
Draco's stomach twisted in knots as he scrambled to think of an excuse. "It's... It's a new magical item," he muttered, trying to sound nonchalant. "It glows randomly. Just... aesthetic magic."
