Eighth year at Hogwarts had been going relatively well-at least, as well as it could go when you were rooming with Draco Malfoy. Harry Potter hadn't been sure what to expect when he and Draco had been assigned as roommates, but it was surprisingly... tolerable. They had fallen into a sort of uneasy camaraderie. They didn't speak much, but the tension that had once defined their relationship had faded into something quieter. Almost normal.
That wasn't to say everything was fine, exactly. Draco still had his moods, and Harry had caught him brooding more times than he could count. But at least they weren't hexing each other in the corridors anymore.
However, everything changed one evening when a rather innocent game of truth-telling in the common room took a dangerous turn.
It had been Seamus who had suggested the game. A few of the eighth years, including Harry, Draco, Hermione, and a couple of others, had gathered for a casual evening in the common room. Seamus had smuggled in some butterbeer, and before anyone knew it, a round of "truths" had begun-though they were all sure Seamus had something stronger than butterbeer in his flask.
It started harmlessly enough. Silly questions about crushes, embarrassing childhood memories, and mild dares. Draco had stayed mostly silent, occasionally rolling his eyes or offering a snarky comment, but he didn't seem overly bothered by the game.
But then, somehow-because it was Seamus, of course-Veritaserum got involved.
"Let's make this more interesting, yeah?" Seamus grinned, pulling out a tiny vial from his pocket. "I nicked this from Slughorn's stores. Just a drop of Veritaserum, and we'll get some real truths."
Hermione immediately protested, but Seamus was already pouring a few drops into Draco's drink with a mischievous grin.
"What the hell are you doing, Finnegan?" Draco demanded, eyeing the cup suspiciously.
"Relax, Malfoy," Seamus said, waving his hand. "Just a little fun. What's the harm in a few truths?"
Draco narrowed his eyes but, surprisingly, took a sip of the drink anyway, clearly not in the mood to argue. Harry watched with a mix of amusement and apprehension. This wasn't going to end well.
And it didn't take long for the Veritaserum to kick in.
"Alright, Malfoy," Seamus said, leaning forward with a gleam in his eye. "What's your biggest secret?"
The room fell silent. Everyone was expecting some dark, forbidden confession-maybe something related to his past with the Death Eaters, or some dark family secret that Draco had been keeping buried. Harry, sitting across from Draco, watched closely, half-expecting Draco to refuse to answer or to brush it off with a sharp comment.
But instead, Draco blinked, his face suddenly relaxed, and said, "Harry Potter's arse looks amazing in his Quidditch robes."
The silence that followed was deafening.
Harry's mouth dropped open, and he wasn't sure if he'd heard that right. He stared at Draco, waiting for him to smirk or make a sarcastic comment to suggest he was joking, but Draco just sat there, looking like he'd stated the most obvious fact in the world.
Hermione, who had been sipping her tea, choked on it and started coughing violently.
Seamus, on the other hand, burst into laughter. "What?" he howled, clutching his sides. "That's your secret?"
Draco frowned, still clearly under the effects of the Veritaserum, his tone slightly annoyed. "It's not a secret. I've mentioned it plenty of times."
"Wait, wait," Dean cut in, grinning from ear to ear. "Are you serious, Malfoy?"
