The halls of the monastery never seemed so long before, they felt never-ending as Lloyd walked through them slowly nearing the courtyard.
The photographs on the walls changed as he walked, one moment it was of him and his family when he was a child then it went to a photo of him and Kaiya that he never remembered putting up, It must have been done when he was in one of his states before he met Arin and Sora. The blond paused for a second to admire the photo, it was a normal photo of the both of them cuddling on the sofa in their apartment in the city their Dalmatian Ghost on his lap fast asleep whilst Kaiya had a plate of half-eaten cookies, the two of them grinning up at the phone camera cookie crumbs decorating their faces, Kaiya's alluring light green eyes stared back at him and her smile felt contagious. God did he miss her. But he thought this photo was only up on the desk in their- his- bedroom, he must've been in a state when he put this photo up on the wall.
His thumb moved to lay against the picture, specifically next to Kaiya's face that remained frozen in time, it caressed the photo, of the memories it held, of his Ying, of his Kaiya, of his entire world, a soft sigh left his lips. He would find her, he wouldn't rest until they were reunited, he couldn't properly rest til he had Kaiya once again in his arms holding her tightly in case fate truly was so cruel to pull her away from him again. Slowly he continued walking, his gaze never faltering from the photo, from the beaming face of his Ying.
The corridor eventually came to an end and the glaring bright sun shone at him, there was not a single cloud in the sky, not a breeze in sight. It looked calm, it should've felt calm but the hair on the back of Lloyd's neck seemed to stand up the moment he entered the courtyard, causing his fight or flight instincts to kick in. His eyes darted across the yard, yet everything seemed normal, nobody was outside, the punching bag was untouched in the corner and the wall was in top condition, there was no danger surrounding him.
But something was still gnawing at him, scratching underneath his skin, crawling over him like a spider, it was a horrible feeling, a feeling he was all too familiar with that he'd learnt to trust his instincts. Something wasn't right.
Then he heard sounds.
Not the typical sounds he's become acquainted with such as Sora humming as she worked, or Arin shutting the oven and proclaiming a new pie masterpiece, not even the older sounds he recognised of Kai's crude singing in the shower, or Nya sharpening her swords at the fall of night, or Zane and his sometimes endless buzzing meaning one of his circuits need upgrading.
