'Mallory,Mallory wake up' Adam repeated and shook his daughter awake.Mallorys eye quickly blinked open and she sat up in her bed. 'Mhm' she responded half asleep as she rubbed her eyes.'Pack a bag we have to go' Her father explained as he walked over to her wardrobe and pulled down her school bag. He unzipped the bag and dumped everything on the floor.Mallory was now wide awake and swung her feet to the edge of the bed.
'What's going on?!' She asked. 'It's not safe anymore Mal,The virus outbreak it's happening fast. The town is gathering up all their things and is meeting at the church,' he explained quickly before rushing out of her room and down the hall.
Mallory stood up to followed her father who had disappeared into his room.He stood at the foot of the bed shoving clothes and other belongings into a bag. 'What's happening?' Mallory asked again. Her father didn't say anything and just pointed to the window.
Mallory slowly made her way over to the window and pulled back the curtain so she could see outside. ' Oh shit' She said under her breath. There were people running all over the street with clothes and other belongings in their arms,People getting in the cars and piling stuff in the trunk of the car before driving off.
One more thing caught Mallorys eye,Someone that stood out from the rest. Someone was walking slowly towards a group of people but it didn't look human.Mallory could feel her father's presence behind her.
Mallory and her father watched as this 'Human' walked up from behind the group and grabbed one of the women's arms and bit down making the women scream out in pain. Adam pulled the curtain back closed.
'Move now Mal' Her father said, pulling her away from the window. Mallory ran back to her room trying to not think about what she had just watched.
She ignored it for now and began to pack. Her bag wasn't too big so she couldn't pack much. She packed two pairs of leggings, one hoodie, three t-shirts and extra underwear and socks.
She shoved everything in her bag before getting changed into a pair of shorts and a hoodie. She quickly put on her runners and then ran into her brother's room. She opened her brother's top drawer in his dresser and took out a photo album and his old bracelet.
Mallory remembers her brother telling her that if they ever had to leave to make sure she took something that would remind her of him.
'Mal lets go!' Her father yelled from the kitchen.' 'coming' Mallory yelled back before she ran back to her room. She put the photo album in her bag, zipped it up and put it on her back before rushing downstairs.
She rushed down stairs slipping her brother's bracelet onto her arm. Her father was waiting for her with a bag on his back and a first aid kit in his right hand. 'You stick by my side' Her father said while his left hand was on the door handle. Mallory nodded her head as she tightened the bracelet on her wrist.
Adam slowly opened the door and peeked his head outside to make sure the coast was clear before they stepped outside. There were people screaming and yelling from outside followed by car horns blaring. 'Come on' Adam whispered to his daughter as he pushed the door wide open allowing her to walk outside next to him.
Mallory clung onto her fathers hand and Adam led them to the car. He opened the passenger door and Mallory quickly got in slamming the door behind her before watching her father walk around and get into the driver's seat.
As Adam was getting the car started Mallory looked in the backseats and realised her mother was nowhere to be seen. 'Where's mom?' She asked with a hint of panic in her voice. 'She's waiting at the church' Her father lied as he pulled out of the driveway and onto the street.
Mallory didn't need to know her mother had left a few hours after she fell asleep. Adams number one priority was his Daughter. To put her first which he always did.
It was still dark out and nearly impossible to see anything. After a few minutes he found his way out of the neighbourhood and began to head in the direction of the church where the rest of the town were supposedly gathering.
Mallory sank into the chair and let out a shaky breath. She looked over at her father and was surprised to see how calm he was.
'Dda what are we gonna do?' Mallory asked. "We're going to get sick together,Where going to get through this together Mal,Like we always do' Her father replied as he pulled into the church car park.
