-Alice's POV-
The art class passed in a comfortable quiet, save for the occasional murmur of our voices during the game of 20 Questions. Bennett had been relaxed. His face, with its soft lines and gentle expressions, had been captivating to watch. His lips, pink and slightly parted as he concentrated on his drawing, were incredibly distracting. I had to stop myself from staring too much, but I couldn't help but think that he was so pretty, even when he didn't realise it.
Jasper and I exchanged glances every so often, silently sharing the pleasure of seeing Bennett this calm, this content. He had a natural elegance to him, a kind of quiet grace that would only become more pronounced when he finally joined us as one of our kind. But for now, I was content to let him live in these moments, watching how his emotions shifted in subtle ways that only Jasper and I could genuinely catch.
After the bell rang, signalling the end of class, Bennett gathered his things, a soft hum of anticipation lingering around him. He looked over at us, expecting us to follow him to the next class. But that next class was physical education, and that was one class neither Jasper nor I, nor any of our siblings, attended.
Bennett's bright eyes flickered with uncertainty as we stood by the door. He tilted his head, his lips pressing into a small, confused pout as he looked between the two of us. His hair fell slightly over his forehead, catching the light just right, making him look almost glossy, angelic, really, though I knew he'd be even more so once we perfected him.
"So, you're not coming?" His voice had a slight edge of disbelief, and I could see how his brow furrowed as his mind worked through this unfamiliar situation. "But you can't... not come."
He looked adorable, so earnest in his confusion, his lips curling just enough in that subtle pout that made me want to reach out and touch them. His face was soft, almost too soft for the sharp thoughts that seemed to be running through his head. He didn't like not knowing what to do and being unable to lean on us to make decisions for him.
Jasper stepped forward, his voice calm and controlled as always. "We have notes that excuse us from doing sports," he explained smoothly, his eyes locking onto Bennett's with a soft but commanding gaze. "But don't worry. We'll meet you right here after the hour is over."
I could see Bennett's mind spinning again, processing this new piece of information. His eyes flitted from Jasper to me, then back again. His lips pressed together, and the pout deepened ever so slightly. He was trying to find a reason why we should come with him, trying to justify how our absence didn't quite sit right with him. I watched him carefully, noting every flicker of emotion that passed over his glossy eyes, every slight twitch of his lips.
It was fascinating, really, how expressive he was, how his emotions seemed to dance just beneath the surface, visible to anyone who paid attention. And we always paid attention.
Bennett hesitated, biting his lower lip for just a moment. It was endearing how hard he was trying to figure out what to do next, and I felt a surge of affection for him. He was trying so hard to please us and not upset the delicate balance of our connection.
"Go on, Bennett," Jasper said, his tone carrying the same quiet authority that always seemed to soothe Bennett. "Be good."
Bennett blinked, his pout softening as he processed the instruction. His face smoothed out, the lines of uncertainty fading as he made his decision. He trusted us. Even in his confusion and hesitation, he would always do what we asked of him. And that knowledge made my heart flutter just a little, a warm feeling spreading through me. He was so good, so good, so obedient, so perfect for us.
"Yes, be good, Benny," I added softly, a smile curling on my lips as I watched him take a small step back. His eyes lingered on us for a moment longer, still unsure, but then he nodded, his expression settling into quiet acceptance.
