-Bennett's POV-

I woke up feeling different. Not just rested but almost buzzing with energy. My heart felt lighter, and I was excited to go to school for some reason. A quick thought of Alice and Jasper flashed through my mind, sparking a warmth in my chest. The mere idea of seeing them again made me move a little faster than normal.

I swung my legs out of bed and hurried through my morning routine. My reflection in the mirror seemed brighter somehow as if the tired shadows that usually lingered under my eyes were less noticeable today. After quickly brushing my teeth, I swallowed my morning tablets and threw on my clothes, almost bounding out of my room with my bag in hand.

Downstairs, the smell of something rich and delicious hit me before I even reached the kitchen. The sound of sizzling eggs mixed with the familiar clatter of dishes.

"Morning, sweetheart! You're in a good mood today," my mum called from the stove, turning to flash me a smile. "Did you sleep well?"

"Yes, I did," I replied, surprised at how genuine the words felt.

She was plating up breakfast, something more substantial than I was used to seeing on a rushed weekday morning. Two fried eggs, sausages, toast, and even a couple of hash browns. It wasn't like her to go all out like this on a school day.

"I've made you breakfast," she said, still beaming. "Since you're leaving a little later, you've got time to sit down and eat properly."

"Thanks, Mum," I said, feeling slightly overwhelmed by the gesture. It wasn't like her to fuss over breakfast, especially on Fridays. But I didn't question it; instead, I sat down and started eating. The food was warm and comforting, making me realise just how hungry I was.

"Now eat up. I don't want you to be late," she added with a lighthearted chuckle, using the exact phrase she did every morning. But today, it felt like everything she said had an extra layer of warmth behind it.

I had just finished my plate when there was a knock at the door. My heart leapt, knowing who it had to be. I practically jumped out of my seat, grabbed my coat and bag and rushed to answer it. The cold air hit me the moment I pulled the door open, but I didn't care.

Standing there, dressed in his usual impeccable style, was Jasper.

Before I could stop myself, I launched into his arms, him being the closest to me, my body acting on instinct. His solidity beneath my fingertips felt grounding, and I had to blink back sudden tears that caught me off guard.

"Good morning, Bennett," came Alice's soft voice from beside him, catching me off guard, her tone laced with a giggle. I stepped back from Jasper, feeling a flush creep up my neck. I didn't want to seem more like a freak than I already probably did. But Alice just smiled warmly and stepped closer, pulling me into a hug. The scent of her hair, like fresh rain and something sweet, washed over me.

I hugged her back quickly, my body reacting before my mind caught up. There was something about being close to them that made me feel complete. The cold air didn't even touch me when they were around.

"You're in a cuddly mood today," Alice teased, stepping back just slightly to glance over at Jasper with a grin. "Isn't he, Jazz?"

"Very," Jasper agreed with a smirk, his eyes flicking between me and Alice as though he found the whole thing amusing. But there was a softness in his voice that set me at ease.

Alice looped her arm through mine, her touch light but reassuring. "Come on, Benny, it's Friday! We've got the weekend tomorrow, and I think we should do something fun together."

"Tomorrow?" I repeated, already looking forward to whatever they had in mind.

"Yep! And we can talk about it all day today if you like," she said brightly, pulling me toward the car. "Careful, it's icy out here."

Her hand tightened around mine slightly as she guided me down the icy path, and I couldn't help but smile. There was something infectious about her energy. Everything about this moment felt 'right,' like I was exactly where I was supposed to be. I glanced down at our hands. Hers was so small and cool but steadying like she knew exactly how to balance me; I liked holding it.

As we reached the car, the same one from yesterday, I was filled with that same warm, floaty feeling that had been bubbling up in me all morning. I climbed into the back seat, smiling as I settled behind Jasper, who slid into the driver's seat with a relaxed ease. Alice slipped into the passenger seat, glancing back at me with that ever-present sparkle in her eyes.

-Jasper's POV-

"Bennett seems bouncy today," I murmured to Alice as I fastened my seatbelt, my voice low enough that Bennett wouldn't hear.

Alice shot me a knowing look, her lips curling into a smile. "Very bouncy."

I turned the key, and the engine purred to life. It was a crisp morning, the kind that felt fresh and invigorating, even for us. Bennett, though, seemed lighter than usual, like the weight that had been pressing down on him had lifted overnight. It was curious.
"He hadn't even asked about the messages we hadn't responded to last night," I mentioned, expecting that to be the first thing out of his lips this morning.

"Let's see if he does," Alice whispered back.

We began the drive, the streets glistening with frost under the pale morning light. The car's heater hummed softly, filling the space with warmth. Bennett was quiet for a moment, his head turning as he watched the world pass by, but there was a happiness radiating from him, a contentment that hadn't been there before.

"We've got art today, Bennett," Alice said, louder this time so he could hear. I knew she'd seen his sketchbooks at night when snooping, those pages filled with careful lines and shading that showed a real talent, maybe even a passion.

"Yeah," Bennett replied almost instantly, his voice bright with enthusiasm. "I enjoy art."

Alice grinned. "We enjoy art too, don't we, Jazzy?"

"Absolutely," I agreed. Art was a solace for us both. It's a quiet activity we often indulge in during long, peaceful evenings. It was a rare occurrence, yes, but we had done it before, and it would be an activity Bennett may enjoy with us.

Bennett shifted forward slightly, his excitement growing. "You haven't had an art lesson yet, have you? At this school, I mean?"

Alice shook her head. "Not yet. We're hoping we can sit together, though."

"Oh, yeah, you can sit at my table! There's plenty of space," he said quickly, the happiness in his voice clear. I could see it in how his shoulders relaxed, and his eyes sparkled as he turned to look at us. There was no anxiety today, no hesitation.

'Interesting,' I thought, noting how he hadn't even needed a nudge from my abilities yet. He was naturally riding this high, and it was satisfying.

"That sounds perfect, Benny," Alice said, flashing him a bright smile. "And maybe we can play 20 Questions later? There are still so many things we don't know about each other."

"yeah", he responded, matching her energy slightly.

.

The car ride continued, filled with light chatter, the frosted trees lining the road glittering in the sun. Bennett's happiness was palpable, and the easy rhythm of the morning made everything feel almost perfect. We'd planned for today to be a good one for him, and it seemed like we wouldn't need much effort at all. By this point, I had caved and fed him a steady stream of happiness. I didn't want his usual monotone personality to return, especially with how much Alice was enjoying the bounce in his behaviour this morning.
