Alastor stood by the door, a soft smile lingering as he watched Vox gather his things for work. He didn't expect the gentle kiss Vox planted on his lips before he stepped out, a quick brush of warmth that left Alastor's heart stirring in a way it hadn't in years.
"See you later, love," Vox murmured, a fond smirk tugging at his lips before he stepped out, leaving Alastor in the quiet lobby.
Once outside, Vox pulled out his phone and called his assistant. "Papermint, can you pick me up at the hotel? And I need you to grab my dark blue Ferrari with neon blue accents from Valentino's place," he instructed, glancing back at the hotel as he paced.
"Sure thing, Vox. I'll be there in a minute," Papermint replied.
When Papermint arrived a few minutes later, Vox slid into the passenger seat and immediately noticed something off. His eyes widened at the sight of coffee splashed all over the windshield. "What the hell happened to my car?" he exclaimed, half-laughing, half-concerned.
Papermint looked shaken, his hands gripping the steering wheel a little too tightly. "Valentino wasn't happy," he admitted, glancing at Vox with wide eyes. "Let's just say he... didn't take your breakup too well."
Vox sighed, a mix of frustration and disbelief washing over him. "Great. Just what I needed today," he muttered, shaking his head. "Drive me to this location," he said, airdropping the address to Papermint. "I'll explain once we get there."
As they pulled away from the hotel, Vox focused on the tasks ahead. "Let's hope today gets better," he said, glancing at Papermint, who nodded in agreement.
The car rolled to a stop outside a quaint jewelry store, its elegant facade adorned with glimmering displays of sparkling gems. Vox stepped out, glancing at the shimmering pieces in the window, a sense of purpose surging through him.
Papermint, still leaning against the car, looked puzzled as he followed Vox inside. "Uh, why are we here?" he asked, his brow furrowed in confusion.
"Shut up and let me handle this," Vox replied, dismissing Papermint's question with a wave of his hand. Papermint shrugged and stepped back, giving Vox space.
Vox approached the counter, catching the attention of a staff member. "I need two promise rings, made of your finest silver," he said, his tone firm yet filled with an undercurrent of excitement.
The staff member's eyes widened as she recognized him. "Of course, Mr. Vox! Right away!" Without hesitation, she rushed to the back, leaving Vox tapping his fingers on the counter.
A few moments later, she returned, beaming as she presented two stunning promise rings, each delicately engraved with "I promise." The silver glinted in the light, reflecting the significance of what they represented.
"Would you like anything custom engraved on the inside?" she asked, her enthusiasm contagious.
Vox nodded, his heart racing. "Yes, please," he replied, and after providing the custom engravings he wanted, he watched as she disappeared again to complete the request.
Minutes later, she returned, holding the rings carefully. Vox inspected them, a satisfied smile spreading across his face. "Perfect," he said, pulling out his wallet. He paid for the rings, his mind racing with anticipation for what was to come.
As he left the store, Vox felt a rush of exhilaration. He was ready to take the next step, and soon, everything would change for him and Alastor. With the rings securely in his pocket, he headed back to the car, a grin plastered across his face. "Let's go," he said to Papermint, who was still standing by the car, looking bemused.
"Are you serious? Rings? Like, actual promise rings?" Papermint asked, a mix of disbelief and excitement in his voice.
"Yeah, and you'll find out why soon enough. Just drive!" Vox replied, his heart racing at the thought of the moment that awaited them.
As they drove through the bustling streets of Hell, Vox felt a mix of excitement and nerves swirling inside him. He still had a few things to handle at work, but the thought of what was to come later kept a smile tugging at his lips.
"Hey, Papermint," Vox said, turning to his assistant, who was focused on the road ahead. "After we're done here, can you drive me back to the hotel?"
Papermint glanced over, curious. "Sure, but what's up? You got plans or something?"
"I want you to come for dinner," Vox replied, a hint of eagerness in his voice. "Meet the staff. They've been really nice to me, and I think you'll get along with them."
"Sounds good! What's the occasion?" Papermint asked, a grin spreading across his face.
Vox hesitated, the rings resting in his pocket weighing heavily on his mind. He wanted to tell Papermint about his renewed relationship with Alastor and the purpose of the rings, but he thought it might be more impactful as a surprise. "Just... thought it'd be nice, you know?" he finally said, keeping it vague.
Papermint nodded, sensing there was more to the story but not pressing further. "Alright, I'm in. Just let me know like five minutes before you want to leave, I have things to handle, want to make sure everything's in order before we let the schmucks handle everything all night." Vox chuckled, "Sure"
They arrived at the VoxTek offices, the sleek building towering above them, glinting in the hellish sunlight. Vox stepped out, feeling the familiar buzz of the workplace envelop him. He turned to Papermint before heading inside. "I'll see you later, okay?"
"I'll be here." Papermint replied, his excitement contagious.
As Vox made his way to his office, the weight of the promise rings in his pocket felt lighter with each step. The day ahead was going to be busy, but the thought of dinner with Alastor, the staff, and his assistant made everything worthwhile.
