The next morning brought a sense of renewed energy. Sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting a warm glow around the room. Peter awoke to the sound of Morgan humming a cheerful tune, her voice echoing softly through the hallway. He stretched and swung his legs over the side of the bed, feeling a rush of determination. Today was a new day, and they were going to make it special.
Peter quickly got dressed and made his way to the kitchen, where he found Morgan already rummaging through the cabinets, her brows furrowed in concentration. MJ, Peter's wife, was beside her, smiling as she handed Morgan ingredients.
“Need any help?” Peter offered, stepping up beside them.
“I’m just looking for the cupcake liners,” Morgan said, glancing up with a bright smile. “I think we have some left over from last time.”
“Cupcake liners and sprinkles! Don’t forget the sprinkles!” Peter added enthusiastically, recalling how much fun they’d had decorating cupcakes in the past.
“Got them!” Morgan exclaimed, holding up a colorful pack. “We’re definitely making these extra special.”
As they gathered ingredients, Tony walked in, rubbing sleep from his eyes and sporting his usual morning disheveled look. “What’s all this commotion?” he asked, yawning dramatically. “I thought I was going to wake up to a quiet house.”
“Quiet? Not today, Dad! We’re baking cupcakes, and it’s going to be epic!” Peter announced, his excitement infectious.
“Epic cupcakes, huh?” Tony replied, raising an eyebrow. “You’d better make sure you leave some for me, or I’ll be forced to eat all the leftover batter myself.”
“Fair warning: I won’t be held responsible for any batter theft,” Peter joked, grinning as he measured out flour.
“Yeah, yeah. Just make sure you don’t burn anything,” Tony said, grabbing a coffee mug and pouring himself a cup. “I can’t deal with another fire alarm at this hour.”
With laughter and banter filling the kitchen, the four of them worked together seamlessly, sharing stories and jokes as they mixed and whipped the ingredients. Peter felt a wave of warmth spread through him as he watched Morgan’s face light up with joy. It was moments like this that reminded him of the strength of their bond.
After the batter was prepared, they poured it into the colorful liners and placed them in the oven. While they waited for the cupcakes to bake, Tony pulled out his phone, scrolling through his messages.
“Looks like we have some plans today,” he announced. “I’ve got a team meeting with the Avengers later, but I’ll be back in time for the frosting.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll save you some,” Peter assured him, a hint of mischief in his voice. “As long as you don’t try to claim more than your share!”
“Deal,” Tony replied with a laugh before heading toward the living room.
As the sweet smell of cupcakes wafted through the air, Morgan turned to Peter and MJ. “Can we talk about yesterday? When everything happened?” she asked, her expression shifting from excitement to something more serious.
Peter nodded, his heart tightening. MJ placed a gentle hand on Morgan's shoulder, nodding in support. “Of course. It was… a lot to take in,” Peter replied.
“I don’t want to keep dwelling on what Hydra did to me,” Morgan admitted, biting her lip. “But it scared me. I felt so lost, like I wasn’t myself anymore.”
“It’s okay to feel that way,” Peter reassured her, moving closer. “What they did was horrible, and it’s natural to be scared after something like that. But I want you to know that you’re back now. You’re safe with us.”
Morgan smiled softly, her eyes glistening with gratitude. “Thanks, Peter. I just don’t want you to feel like you have to protect me all the time. I want to be strong, too.”
MJ chimed in, squeezing Morgan’s hand. “And you are strong, Morgan. Stronger than you know. It’s okay to lean on us when you need to, and we’ll always be here for you.”
Just then, the timer for the oven went off, interrupting their heartfelt moment. “Cupcake time!” Peter shouted, rushing to pull the trays out. The golden-brown treats looked perfect, and he couldn’t help but beam with pride.
Once they had cooled, it was time for the fun part: frosting. Tony returned, sleeves rolled up and ready to help. Together, they whipped up a batch of fluffy buttercream, and the kitchen quickly transformed into a colorful chaos of frosting, sprinkles, and laughter.
“Let’s make them unique!” Morgan suggested, her eyes sparkling with creativity. “We should have a cupcake theme for each of us!”
“Great idea!” Peter said. “I’ll make mine a spider cupcake with red and black frosting.”
“I want mine to be a rainbow explosion!” Morgan declared, grabbing a handful of colorful sprinkles.
“What about me?” Tony asked, grinning. “How about I get a ‘Genius Billionaire’ flavor? You know, something extravagant with layers of chocolate and caramel.”
“Sounds like a heart attack waiting to happen,” Peter teased, making Tony laugh.
As they decorated the cupcakes, the atmosphere shifted back to lightness and joy. Peter was grateful for this time, knowing that laughter and love were the best remedies.
Once the cupcakes were decorated and displayed, they admired their handiwork. “These look amazing!” Morgan exclaimed, proud of their creations.
“Almost too pretty to eat,” Tony said, but Peter could see the glint of excitement in his dad’s eyes.
“Then let’s taste them!” Morgan suggested eagerly, and without hesitation, they each grabbed a cupcake. The first bite brought delighted smiles to their faces, each flavor bursting with sweetness.
As they continued to eat, they all felt a renewed sense of hope and strength. They knew that together, they could face anything that came their way.
As the afternoon faded into evening, they gathered around the living room to watch movies, filled with laughter, warmth, and the joy of being together. And in that moment, surrounded by the people he loved most, Peter knew they would emerge stronger than ever, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
