James' orders were clear. "Victor, stay with Ava. Ensure she doesn't escape."
Victor nodded, his expression unyielding.
James turned to his men. "Get Emily. Bring her here."
The team descended upon Emily's location, swift and efficient.
Emily's scream echoed through the night as James' men dragged her away, her struggles futile against their crushing grip. The darkness swallowed her whole, and she was tossed into a van speeding away from her life. Panic set in, her mind racing with terror. Where were they taking her? Why?
The van screeched to a halt at James' mansion, its opulent facade masking the sinister intentions within. Emily was dragged out, her eyes scanning the unfamiliar surroundings. James stood before her, his expression cold, calculating.
James scolded his men." Could you not get her respectfully?"
"Sir, she was not ready to come so we had to do something, we are sorry."
"Emily," he said, his voice firm, commanding.
Emily's defiance faltered as she saw Ava's battered form in the distance, guilt and shame etched on her face. "Ava, how could you?" Emily whispered, her voice trembling.
James' gaze locked onto Emily, his eyes burning with intensity. "Reynolds used Ava to get to you. She helped plan Ethan's murder."
Emily's world crumbled, shock and rage warring within her. She turned to James, accusation blazing in her eyes. "You're lying! You just want to keep me as a prisoner!"
James' expression remained unyielding, his voice low, menacing. "I'm protecting you, Emily. Reynolds will stop at nothing."
Emily's laughter echoed, tinged with hysteria. "Protecting me? You're kidnapping me!" She spun around, searching for escape, but Victor's imposing figure blocked the door.
In that moment, Emily realized she was trapped, a pawn in James' game of cat and mouse. Fear clawed at her heart, her mind racing with desperate plans. She would escape, uncover the truth, and bring justice to Ethan's memory. But for now, she was captive, at James' mercy.(according to her)
Emily's eyes narrowed, her mind racing with suspicion. James' words seemed laced with deception.
"You're not protecting me," Emily accused, her voice firm. "You want revenge."
James' expression faltered, a flicker of surprise crossing his face.
"Revenge?" he repeated.
Emily's gaze locked onto James, her voice cold.
"Agent Black. You me as her now also, don't you?"
James' silence confirmed Emily's fears.
"You're using me to get to the revenge you wanted..., you wanted to destroy Agent Black, and here you are trying to do it in the worst way possible" Emily spat.
James' eyes flashed with anger.
"That's not true," he growled.
Emily's laughter echoed, tinged with bitterness.
"Don't lie to me, Merodach. I know your tactics."
James took a step closer, his voice low.
"Emily, listen—"
Emily's hand shot up, halting James. James got to know that Emily still sees him as Merodach only, he felt heart broken.
"No, you listen. I won't be your pawn. I won't be for revenge."
Victor shifted uncomfortably, his eyes darting between James and Emily.
James' jaw clenched.
"Fine," he snapped. "You want truth? I'll show you."
James pulled out a folder, slamming it onto the table.
"Reynolds' files. Proof of his betrayal."
Emily's eyes widened as she scanned the documents.
But her distrust ran deep.
"How do I know this isn't fabricated?" Emily challenged.
James' eyes blazed.
"You don't trust me?" he asked, his voice laced with hurt.
Emily's gaze met James', her voice firm.
"No, I don't."
The dimly lit room seemed to suffocate Emily, her eyes fixed on James' determined face.
"We found Reynolds," Victor announced, his voice low and gravelly.
Emily's heart skipped a beat.
"Where?" James demanded.
Victor's gaze met James'. "Abandoned warehouse on 5th and Main."
James' jaw clenched.
"Bring him here."
Emily's mind reeled.Emily's world crumbled as she gazed upon Reynolds' smug face, his eyes gleaming with malevolence. The dimly lit room seemed to suffocate her, the air thick with tension. Victor's words cut through the silence like a knife: "We found Reynolds." James' eyes blazed with fury, his jaw clenched.
Reynolds' struggles were futile as Victor's team dragged him in, his sneers and snarls filling the room. James' smile twisted, a cold calculation in his eyes. "Reynolds, you've gone too far." The folder Victor tossed onto the table seemed to explode with secrets, proof of Reynolds' betrayal spilling out.
Emily's eyes scanned the documents, her heart shattering into a million pieces. The words blurred together, but one phrase stood out: "Reynolds orchestrated the car accident that killed Emily's parents."
"NO!" she screamed, her voice echoing off the walls, her world crumbling around her. Reynolds' smile faltered, his eyes flashing with guilt.
"You killed my parents," Emily accused, tears streaming down her face, her body shaking with rage and grief.
Reynolds' gloating words cut deep: "I ruined everything you had...and soon, I'll ruin you." His voice dripped with malice, his eyes gleaming with sadistic pleasure.
James' anger boiled over, his growl low and deadly. "Enough," he spat, his gun drawn.
A gunshot echoed through the room, Reynolds crumpling to the floor, his lifeless body slumping against the cold concrete.
Emily's gaze met James', shock and gratitude mingling. "Thank you," she whispered, her voice trembling.
James' expression softened, his voice gentle. "I promised to protect you, Emily." His eyes locked onto hers, filled with a deep sincerity.
Emily's heart skipped a beat. Could she trust James? Had he truly saved her? The room seemed to fade away, leaving only Emily and James, bound by a shared secret.
As Emily's tears slowed, she saw James in a new light. His determination, his fierce protection – it wasn't just about revenge; it was about keeping her safe.
"James," Emily whispered, her voice barely audible.
James stepped closer, his eyes never leaving hers. "I'm here, Emily. I won't let anyone hurt you again."
Emily's hand reached out, James' fingers intertwining with hers. A spark of hope ignited, a sense of safety she hadn't felt in years.
