POV: you saw Rafe and Sofia together at the beach after he slept with you

You woke up at the crack of dawn, your phone buzzing incessantly on your nightstand. Barely glancing at the screen, you answered, your voice groggy and annoyed.

"Hello?"

"Can we meet up?"

Her eyes shot open, and you checked the caller ID. Rafe. You cursed at yourself internally, your fingers twitching to hang up.

"Hello?" His voice sounded almost tentative, like he knew you'd probably already considered blocking him.

You brought the phone back to your ear, your voice laced with bitterness. "fuck you, Rafe. Don't call me again."

"Just one last time, Y/N. Meet me, and I promise you'll never have to see me again if that's what you want."

You clenched your eyes shut, your mind warring between anger and the undeniable pull you still felt towards him. Finally, with a resigned sigh, you whispered, "Fine. Where?"

"Goat Island. I'll drop you the pin."

When you arrived, Rafe was already there, staring out at the coastline with his hands in his pockets, as if the waves could somehow wash away what he'd done. Just looking at him made your heart twist, a painful mix of longing and anger.

"Make this quick," you said, your tone cold as you avoided his gaze.

He looked over, his face tinged with regret. "I want to show you something."

"I don't have time for this, Rafe. Tell me why I'm here, or I'm leaving."

He hesitated, then sighed. "I wanted to apologize, Y/N. About yesterday."

You crossed your arms tightly, steeling yourself as tears threatened. "Which part? Sleeping with me, or showing up at the beach with Sofia? Did you even break up with her?" You scoffed bitterly, rocking on your heels as you looked down, "Actually, don't answer that. Whatever you say, I'll probably want to slap you either way. So, no—there's nothing to apologize for."

"Y/N, you know it's not like that—"

You lifted a hand, cutting him off sharply. "I get it, Rafe. It was all just a game to you, wasn't it? You got what you finally wanted—finally slept with the girl who kept you at arm's length. Now you can check that off your list." You exhaled, the hurt breaking through your voice. "Is that all? Because if so, I'm done here."

You turned to leave, but Rafe grabbed your arm, stopping you mid-stride. You spun back around, raising your hand to slap him, but he caught your wrist, his grip firm as your tears finally spilled over.

"Y/N, please—just give me a chance to explain."

"No, I don't want to hear it! I'm done. Let me go." You says as you struggle to remove yourself from his grip.

But he held on, his voice raw and almost desperate. "Sofia told me you were planning to take the deal with Hollis!" He yells as you stop fighting him. "That you were trying to go behind my back and cut me out!"

You froze, shock flashing in your eyes. "What are you talking about? Sofia? I was the one who told you not to trust Hollis—I was the one who warned you. Why would I ever—"

"To take the deal from under me!" he spat, anger clouding his face.

Her expression turned to disbelief as you wrenched your arm free. "Do you even hear yourself? You think I would sabotage you? After everything?"

You shove him away, putting distance between you.

"Rafe... if you knew me at all, you would know that some sketchy deal with some lowlife cougar isn't what I need to screw with you. I would've never ever done that to you. Ever."

His gaze softens as he knows you might be right, "I'm sorry."

"I never lied to you Rafe. About anything. I've always been clear about my feelings and about what I want. But if you think so little of me, then we're finished. For good."

Without waiting for his reply, you turned and walked away, leaving him standing alone on the coast, the weight of your words hanging in the silence.
