The coastal breeze ruffled your hair as you leaned against the railing of Tannyhill's balcony, the glittering lights of the party below casting an ambient glow across the estate. The night was alive with laughter, music, and clinking glasses, but you had little interest in mingling with the crowd. Not when you spotted Rafe Cameron making his way toward you.

"Didn't think you'd come up here," Rafe said, stepping beside you, his blue eyes sweeping over your form in that annoyingly confident way of his. He had that smirk on his lips—the one that always seemed like he knew a secret you didn't.

You raised an eyebrow, swirling the champagne in your glass. "I needed a break from your charming girlfriend. She's like a vanilla cupcake, Rafe. Sweet but so painfully boring."

His smirk deepened as he chuckled lowly. "Jealousy doesn't suit you, Y/N."

"Jealous?" You scoffed, pushing off the railing to face him fully. "Please. I'm just annoyed you downgraded. You used to have better taste."

Rafe leaned in slightly, close enough that you could smell the faint hint of his cologne. "What? You think you're an upgrade?"

Your lips curled into a slow, wicked smile. "I don't think, Rafe. I know."

His tongue darted out to wet his lips, and for a split second, you saw the flicker of desire in his eyes before he masked it with his usual arrogance. "Big words for someone who spends most of her time terrorizing everyone on the island."

"Only the ones who deserve it." You stepped closer, the space between you shrinking. "Like your little cupcake. She's holding you back, you know. You're meant for someone who can keep up with you."

Rafe tilted his head, clearly intrigued. "And let me guess—you think that's you?"

You shrugged, taking a sip of your champagne and holding his gaze over the rim of the glass. "Well, I wouldn't want to assume... but let's be real, Rafe. You and I? We're the same. Ambitious. Ruthless. And we both hate being second best to anyone."

His jaw ticked slightly, and you knew you'd struck a nerve. He stepped even closer, his voice dropping to a husky whisper. "You talk a big game, Y/N. But you're just trying to get under my skin."

You leaned in, your lips barely an inch from his ear. "Maybe I already am." You whisper.

He exhaled sharply, his hand brushing yours on the railing, the touch lingering just long enough to make your pulse quicken. "Sofia's not going anywhere," he said, though his voice lacked conviction.

You tilted your head, your eyes narrowing as you studied him. "You sure about that? Because if she really mattered, you wouldn't be standing here right now."

Rafe stared at you, his gaze intense, his breath coming just a bit quicker. "You don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh, but I do." You stepped back, giving him a slow once-over. "You're bored, Rafe. And she's convenient. But deep down, you know she's not enough. Not for someone like you."

He ran a hand through his hair, the tension radiating off him in waves. "You think you have me all figured out, don't you?"

You smirked, your confidence unwavering. "I know exactly who you are, Cameron. And if you ever want to stop playing house and start living? You know where to find me."

With that, you turned on your heel and walked away. Although, you didn't make it far before you heard his footsteps behind you, the sound purposeful and heavy. A victorious smirk tugged at your lips, though you didn't turn around. You knew he couldn't resist.
