Warriors: Lost

Chapter 4

"What is borage used for?"

"To increase queens' milk."

"Juniper berries?"

"Stomachaches."

"Deathberries?"

"Save a cat from a slow death. But only ShadowClan medicine cats use them."

"Poppy seeds?"

"To ease off pain and help the cat go to sleep."

"Chervil?"

"Can be chewed into poultice, which is used for wounds."

"Cobweb?"

"Used to keep the poultice in place."

Runningpelt was quizzing Redpaw if he knew all of the herbs' uses. So far, he hadn't got a single one wrong. Runningpelt was very impressed, after all he hadn't been in the medicine den once as a kit.

However, Redpaw remembered he had snuck into the medicine den to watch Runningpelt work and memorized every single herb use and by now knew every single herb use like the back of his paw.

"Redpaw, did you sneak into the medicine den as a kit?" Runningpelt purred, and when Redpaw nodded, she continued. "Even then you must've wanted to be a medicine cat's apprentice." 

Runningpelt padded over to the herb shelf. "You should get some rest. It's been a long day yesterday, and you'll need all the help you could get."

Redpaw nodded rapidly. He went to sleep, and dreamed he was in a bright void. He saw bright, white eyes and a transparent looking cat. "B-Bluestar?" asked Redpaw in disbelief, remembering the stories the elders told him as a kit.

Bluestar made no response, except, "Five cats, one from each clan, will go on a journey of self-discovery. They will find a sixth, lost and unsure, and they will help this clan find their way back home."

"Five cats, one from each clan..." Redpaw murmured.

"Does that mean you've chosen five cats, one from each clan? Like you did with Brambleclaw from ThunderClan, Tawnypelt from ShadowClan, Crowfeather from WindClan, and Feathertail from RiverClan?"

"Yes, indeed," mewed Bluestar passionately. "You are one of the chosen. Meet with the others at Fourtrees in the next Gathering. They are Cinderpaw from RiverClan, Shinepaw from WindClan, Luckypaw from SkyClan, and Nightpaw from ShadowClan." She explained.

"Oh... we're all apprentices, then." Redpaw decided. "Alright. I'll try to be on my best behavior so Runningpelt could let me go to the Gathering."

Let's hope that the other cats will do the same.

As if reading his thoughts, Bluestar purred, and said. "Have no fear young one. StarClan will find a way for you to all meet at the next Gathering."

Redpaw nodded, and awoke to Runningpelt setting down a warrior named Meadowfrost to the nest they use for the injured. "Is anything wrong?" mewed Redpaw. "Not much. Just a scratch. Stop getting yourself in trouble with WindClan, Meadowfrost— we've had enough trouble already."

"They were stealing our prey!" hissed Meadowfrost. "You can't argue with that statement!"

"Oh really? Cause Snowfall, the deputy, told me that you attacked them. They were not trespassing, they were not stealing prey, and I don't think that Stormstar appreciated apologizing to Gorgetail for the trouble you caused."

Redpaw's ears twitched in amusement. "When's the next Gathering?" asked Redpaw. "Just in two days." mewled Runningpelt. "You want to go to meet the other medicine cat apprentices?"

"No," Redpaw shook his head. "Certainly not."

"Then what is it?" asked Runningpelt, frustrated.

"I had a dream about Bluestar. She gave me a prophecy and it said 'Five cats, one from each clan, will go on a journey of self discovery. They will find a find a sixth, lost and unsure, and help that clan find their way back home.'"

Runningpelt looked at him in shock. "That was the prophecy StarClan gave me. What did Bluestar tell you?" She asked.

"She said I was one of the chosen, so was four other apprentices from different clans. I have to go to the Gathering." answered Redpaw. He didn't care if she thought he was crazy. He would go to the Gathering, no matter if she wanted it or not.

"I was going to invite you anyways. But this is way more serious," murmured Runningpelt. "I'll speak with the other medicine cats at Halfmoon."
