Lillian's POV
The smell of the hospital was becoming a familiar smell to me, along with the faces here. The long white hallways were almost haunting to me. The same patients walking down the halls everyday, the way their eyes lit up every step they took. It was almost gut wrenching to look at them for to long. My fading red hair was falling out of the bun I had slung it in, I pushed it back quickly turning the corner.
Room 349. The room I had practically lived in for three weeks. I placed my hand on the door handle giving it a slight push. The room was brighter then usual, the window was open and the blinds were drawn up. I narrowed my eyes at the bright light before stepping into the room. Ashton's long curly locks were laid around his pillow. I walked over to the bed, sitting on the small space beside of him.
They have took the bandages off of his face to reveal the big red scar along his cheek. Around his eyes was no longer black, it was a faint yellow tint. The car that swerved into his lane caused him to flip his Jeep 5 times. The glass from his windshield had shattered all over his face and arms. His arms, thankfully, are healed completely and are scar free. His knuckles were still slightly bruised from how he hit his hands when he flipped. Seeing my best friend in this much pain felt like I had been in the Jeep with him.
I placed my cold hand into his lightly rubbing his bruised knuckles.
"Ash, you know I hate talking." I spoke softly.
"I really need you to wake up. I'm going insane out here by myself."
I felt a hand land on my shoulder. I lightly jumped and turned around, the nurses were faintly smiling at me. I let go of his hand and slid off the bed, walking over to the door. I took one last look at my best friend laying in bed before walking out of the small room. I walked down the long hall and to the waiting area. Drinking coffee all day had become a normal thing to me now. The small styrofoam cup was topped to the rim with black coffee as I made my way to the hospital entrance doors. The sun looked like it would be warm outside but the wind was chilly. I pulled my jacket closer around my body when I saw a familiar person walking towards the hospital. His now black hair was pulled back behind his ears in a beanie. His hands were shoved deep into his front pockets as he noticed me standing against the wall.
Since Ash had been in the hospital Michael has come to see him every night. He tells me he sits and talks to him, I assume about things that happened before we met. It really hurt him that we had gotten into a fight hours before. Michael's tired eyes were finally in view as he quickly scooped me into his arms. Being careful not to spill the coffee I wrapped my arms around his neck. We had both been on edge and not sleeping well since the accident. My mother had been begging me to sleep and get rest for school but I couldn't find the motivation to do so. I hadn't turned any photos in for my class but thankfully the teacher had understood.
Michael pulled away from me and giving me a faint smile.
"Have you slept?"
I nodded taking one last sip of my coffee, and tossing it into the bin next to me.
"Promise?"
I promise Michael. Have you gotten any sleep?
"Some but not a lot." His hands moved along with his mouth before he shoved them back into his front pockets. Since Ashton had been in the hospital it was almost like Michael had no choice but to quickly pick up on sign language. If we weren't at the hospital or school, or Michael wasn't at work we were at each other's homes practicing. The doors next to us slid open a doctor emerging, a smile was plastered against his face.
"I think you should come see this."
Michael looked at me quickly translating what he had just said as I raised my eyebrows and quickly followed the doctor back inside of the warm hospital. The walk to his room felt longer then usual or maybe I was just in panic mode. As soon as we reached the room the door was propped open. Ashton was propped up in bed now, his hazel eyes were looking over at Michael and I now.
Before I could think of what to sign or say I practically ran over to his side. I flung my body onto him, trying hard not to hurt him. His long arms were still by his side as I pulled away and looked at him. He said something as I narrowed my eyes and looked at Michael. His face was in awe as I gave him another look.
What did he say Michael?
Michael stood there as I looked back at Ashton. His eyebrows were narrowed and he looked confused. I looked at the nurses and the doctor. I quickly stood up and shook my head. I felt Michael grab ahold of my hand before pulling me towards the door. The nurses and doctors surrounded him as I looked up at Michael.
Lil, he has no clue who you are anymore..
