3rd POV

Pastry cursed under her breath.

How many forces could the Darkness have? But she anticipated this...

The shadows can only hide its predators for so long...

Trained and armed in combat, she shot through the armies as she had once before, all screaming rushing through her ears as some of them fell by her crossbow.

She narrowly avoids the blade hitting the ground in front of her...she almost expected lightning to blast through her.

"I was not expecting you."

The cake prince gave her a murderous glare in response, holding his blade and pointing it directly at her. "I am not letting my brother fall today. If that means I'll die by your hands then so be it!"

She hears a roar behind him and steps back far enough, large footsteps practically smash on the ground as his huge gigantic cake hound growls next to him.

"Chiffon, let's give her hell."

Custard looked worriedly at the ground, seeing the battle ensuing. A stray arrow nearly hits him, but it misses just barely.

Why did it have to end up like this?

He feels a tap on his shoulder.

"Gingerbrave."

The cookie smiles back at him in response, trying to comfort him. "We're about to head up...sooner or later, Dark Vanilla Cookie will lift up the kingdom." Gingerbrave informed, which only earned a nod from Custard in response.

"Hey...you okay?" He asked.

"I nearly got shot, do I even look okay?" He replied.

Gingerbrave frowned in response. "I'm sorry this had to happen Custard..." He sighed. "So soon after your birthday too."

"No." Custard said sternly. "No need to pity me Gingerbrave...it might be stressful but. As a king...eventually I have to get used to bad news." He says, which frightens Gingerbrave. "But you're not a king yet!"

"I will be one day...and...possibly sooner." Custard grips the Vanilla Orchid Staff tight. "Gingerbrave, have you even heard the way my father speaks? It's like he's expecting that he'll die soon."

"And I-I'm worried that...he knows something we don't."

Gingerbrave shook his head, pulling Custard by his shoulders. "Do not, think that."

"A king would be used to bad news, but he is supposed to fight them head on!" He assured sternly. "I mean, come on! Just like what you did in the Pomegranate Village! You immediately went to help the villagers despite hearing bad news!"

Curstard looked at him shocked. "But...they only agreed because-"

"We all agreed because we wanted to help." Gingerbrave assured. "Even if I hadn't said anything, if you told us you were gonna help them, we would help them." He smiled back at them.

"And that's what kings do, they see a problem with the people and they help solve it! But you can't think straight if you keep thinking about the negatives." Custard looked at him, slightly shocked and surprised but nodded. "Y-yeah...yeah! You're right."

Gingerbrave smiled. "Now come on! You need to be ready to activate the barrier." He spoke patting Custard's shoulder, Custard nodded in response, a look of new-found determination on his face.

Gingerbrave went to leave, but was stopped for a moment.

"You know a lot about leadership...don't you Gingerbrave?"
