Chapter 6:
I woke up later and found I was in a hospital room. I also noticed Leo was still holding my hand and the pain was lighter now.
"Leo?" I asked.
"Yes?" He answered hopefully.
"You lied."
I couldn't even look at him so I stared at the ceiling.
"I'm sorry." He said.
"It's going to take a little more then sorry." I said.
Leo left and I sat there waiting for my parents to come. Once they did they weren't happy. I lied and told them I got jumped walking home but they hardly believed me. They grounded me for a week and forbid me from seeing Leo, which was fine with me since we were fighting again. I ended up okay, I didn't need crutches but I needed to take things slow and take a break from martial arts. This broke my heart. When I got home it took me a while to get to my room upstairs but when I did I checked my iPhone discretely, it was about six thirty. I walked in my room and saw a bouquet of red roses and a card on my bed. I opened the card and read it.
"I'm really sorry. I'm such an idiot and I hope you'll forgive me. I can't stand when we're fighting so please accept my apology. -Leo"
I picked up the roses and sniffed them, my eyes filled with tears of joy. Of course Id forgive him. I limped out onto my balcony and saw Leo's light was on. I pulled out my iPhone.
"Come outside onto your balcony." I texted Leo.
Leo came out and we smiled simultaneously. We were just a few feet from each other, close enough to talk.
"I forgive you," I smiled,"I can't stand fighting either."
Leo smiled back then asked, "Are you okay?"
"Yeah I just need to take things easy." I said.
Leo nodded.
"Oh and I'm grounded for a week and forbidden from seeing you." I laughed.
Leo gasped and then broke out in laughter too.
"No seriously," I said,"Text me."
"Aha okay. Goodnight Karla."
"No," I whined,"Don't say bye yet."
"It's really cold I don't want you getting sick. I'll text you, okay?"
"Okay." I smiled.
I went back inside and closed the balcony door. I went over to my bed and pulled out a box from underneath. Inside we're eight checks each worth seven hundred dollars. I felt guilty now and disgusting. This was wrong, Leo was my friend now, money meant nothing now. I kicked the box back under and called Williams office.
"Hello?" A woman asked.
"Candace?"
"Yes?"
"This is Karla. We need to talk."
"Well hello Karla, what's the matter?"
"I want to quit."
"You can't do that!" Candace exclaimed.
"What I mean is I don't want to be paid to watch over Leo. We're friends now and it makes me feel guilty."
"Okay we'll stop paying you if you want," Candace said," Just keep taking care of him like if we were paying you."
"No problem." I said relieved.
"One more thing. You aren't falling in love with Leo now are you?"
"What?" I asked.
"Because trust me, these things never end right. Spare yourself the heart ache." Candace said coldly.
"I don't like Leo." I said.
"Good."
But saying I didn't like Leo was like saying I didn't like martial arts. Which was a lie, martial arts was my life.
