Chapter 18:
We got back from Disney land past midnight leaving me to stare at the guest room ceiling for hours. When morning finally came I found everyone downstairs eating cereal.
"Good morning." I tried to smile.
"Good morning." They smiled back.
"How are you?" Leo asked as I sat down across from him,"Did you have fun yesterday?"
"Yeah it was awesome." I half lied.
If the paparazzi hadn't shown up everything would have been fine.
"We're going to Century City Shopping Center today, won't that be fun?" Jason said placing a bowl in front of me.
"Yeah." I replied absentmindedly.
"Karla loves shopping!" Leo exclaimed.
"So do I!" Olivia gushed.
"Yay!" I cried trying to be enthusiastic.
....
"Do you like this?" Leo asked grabbing a cashmere sweater off a rack at Nordstrom.
"Nah."
"How about this?"
He unfolded a pair of skinny jeans that costed around $200.
"No."
I sighed as he continued on through the store. I didn't want him buying me anything, especially with paparazzi wandering around every shop.
"Hey can we get yogurt?" Alex said popping out from between two coat racks.
"Yeah I'm hungry." Mateo added.
"You're always hungry." Dylan laughed.
"Yeah let's go." I agreed.
We walked into Pink berry and chose our cup size and flavor. Then we added toppings and sat down by the window.
"No, why don't we sit back there." I pointed at the back table next to the bathrooms.
"This has a nice view." Jason replied.
I reluctantly sat down and sunk into my chair. I slowly spooned the vanilla yogurt into my mouth and let it melt.
I watched a small group of girls walk inside giggling at their phones. One of them looked up at us then panicked to get the others attention.
"Oh my gosh!" They screamed once they saw Leo and his friends.
I cringed as they ran over to us eagerly.
"Can we take a picture with you guys?" They beamed.
"Yeah of course." Jason smiled as everyone else nodded.
We all stood up from the table and they shuffled into two rows. The only blond girl dropped her phone into my hands and walked off. I stood in front of them and snapped their picture, smiling weakly.
"Thank you." They smiled at Leo and his friends.
They walked back towards me and the blond snatched up her phone. I gave her a big, fake smile and cursed at her. She and her friends gasped as I waved bye and sat back down with the group.
"What happened?" Olivia asked me.
"Just making friends."
....
Olivia and I went off on our own from the guys. We went to half of the stores then sat down on a bench to rest. During the time spent with her 12 people had asked her for a picture, and I took them all.
"That was fun!" Olivia beamed dropping all her bags on the floor.
"Yeah." I smiled.
I really did have fun at some points and I bought a few things.
"Hey guys!" Alex called coming over with the guys.
"Hey." We grinned.
They stood in front of us with a couple bags themselves, mostly games though.
"Are we all set to go?" Jason asked.
We all nodded except Leo.
"Actually I have something for Karla."
My heart stopped and I choked on the air I was breathing,"What?"
He pulled out a blue and white bag from his GameStop bag and handed it to me. I recognized the crisp white bow and exquisite blue color anywhere; It was Tyfanny's.
"You really didn't have to!" I squeaked.
"I wanted to, open it."
I opened the bag and found a medium sized identical box inside. I proceeded to pull it out and held it in my hand. Everyone looked at me, urging me to open the box. I slowly undid the bow and put it in the bag hanging from my arm. I lifted the top and felt my heart skip a beat.
"Oh my gosh!" Olivia gasped gleefully.
It was a golden charm bracelet with a dozen little charms hanging off of it. It laid on a velvet blanket that was smoother than anything I'd ever touched. My eyes watered with joy and concern.
"This is beautiful!" I gushed at Leo.
He smiled and came in for a hug.
"But I can't accept it." I muttered as he held me tightly.
"Why?" He asked taking a step back.
"It's a really expensive gift."
"For a very special girl." He smiled pulling the charm out of it's box.
He wrapped it around my wrist and clicked it close.
Before I could say another word he hugged me again and then kissed me.
"Awww!" His friends gushed.
Leo grabbed my hand and we all walked back to Jason's car.
