Chapter 13:

The next morning my parents went grocery shopping. They let me stay home because they knew I was sad. I told them Leo couldn't come but I didn't tell them why. I was watching cartoons in the living room when the doorbell rang. I put pause and got up to open the door.

"My parents can't be home yet." I said to myself.

I opened the door and saw no one was outside. I stepped out and looked around when someone came up behind me and gently covered my eyes. My heart started racing wildly. They had uncovered my eyes but I still held them shut tight. Then I noticed a familiar, warm scent.

"Leo!" I gasped turning around.

Leo hugged me and began stroking my hair and I felt all the weight on my shoulders fade away. Then I backed away and kissed him.

"Come on Karla, its cold outside." Leo said pulling in his luggage.

My mind was buzzing with questions but all I could manage to say was, "You came."

Leo brushed my hair out of my face and smiled, "I was joking, I just wanted to surprise you. Surprise!"

I smacked Leo playfully on the arm. Tears were streaming down my face, a mixture of happiness and built up sorrow. I hugged him again and then lead him to the guest room to drop off his stuff.

My parents got home a while later and they exchanged handshakes and hugs with Leo. Then suddenly Leo's parents came in carrying suit cases and gifts. Soon enough even my cousins were here. My house was warm now, filled with laughter and joy.

Christmas morning I got many presents but the best one was from Leo. Inside a red velvet box was a plane ticket to Los Angeles, a hotel reservation and a Kickin' It backstage pass.

"You're coming with me for the New Years." Leo said after I realized what the papers were.

My dad coughed noisily.

"With your parents permission of course!" Leo replied quickly.

I smiled and then laughed, everyone joined in.
