Chapter 17:
I woke up the next morning happily, because the party had gone great. It had been all fun and games, and the focus had been taken off of me.
"Hey wake up sleepy head." Leo smiled down on me.
He had snuck into the room to wake me up so we could all go out for breakfast.
"Are you in the mood for pancakes?" He asked.
"Always." I grinned.
....
We sat all sat at a long table chatting about going to Disney land after. I jumped a little in my seat from excitement, maybe I was wrong about L.A.
"What can I get you guys?" Asked an overly happy waitress.
We all took turns ordering and once the waitress scuttled away they all turned to me.
"You're going to love Disney land!" Jason smiled widely.
"It's the happiest place on earth." Alex exclaimed,"There are so many rides!"
I nodded and smiled to show my enthusiasm.
"Here are your drinks." The waitress chirped coming back.
She handed me my lemonade and I immediately popped a straw and began drinking it.
"Your orders will be ready in less than 30 minutes." She called heading back.
"Okay." Mateo snorted sarcastically.
"More like in less than 3 hours." Dylan grinned.
I giggled at them from behind my drink and caught Leo's eye.
"Thank you." He mouthed.
I wanted to ask for what but then looking around at everyone smiling I understood. Yesterday everyone was tense and I was rejecting change. Now I was making an effort to make Leo's friends mine. It was the best gift he could ask for.
....
We crossed the gate that led into California Adventures and I stopped in awe. There where so many rides I didn't know where to start.
"This way!" Olivia yelled taking my hand.
I stumbled after them too excited to speak.
"Hope you don't mind getting wet." Dylan pointed at the Grizzly River Run.
"I bet you an ice scream cone that I can make it out without a drop of water." I challenged him.
"Okay deal." He shook on it.
....
"I would have made it but that little boy squirted me!" I laughed.
I was soaking wet after the ride but it wasn't because of the squirt guns. I had happened to be in the right spot when we passed under a water fall.
"I'd like a vanilla waffle cone." Dylan teased.
"At lunch, right now we can hit a couple more rides." Leo winked at me.
I blushed as we followed him to a ride that resembled the Matterhorn in the alps. Actually Mateo said the ride was called Matterhorn Bobsleds.
We got on fairly quickly thanks to our fast passes. Jason sat in the front by himself, Olivia and Dylan followed, then Mateo and Alex, and finally Leo and I. Once the ride started we shot uphill and we all screamed our lungs out. The ride took sharp turns and teetered at the edge on the mountain. I tightened my grip on Leo's hands and he hugged me harder, reassuring me.
"Mommy!" Alex jokingly cried.
I chuckled with my eyes shut as we plunged down by the water. The ride stopped and I stepped out shaking while the others seemed indifferent. Everyone turned to see how I was doing.
"That was awesome!" I smiled widely.
They all smiled back as well and we ran to the next ride.
....
"Ehh these burgers aren't that great." I said after finishing my bite.
"It's the best food you'll find in the park." Jason said about Burger Invasion.
"Yeah I'm not really hungry right now." I said pushing my plate away,"I'm going to get Dylan's ice scream and something for myself."
"You really don't have to." Dylan began.
"A bet's a bet." I grinned.
He smiled and nodded back at me.
"I'll be right back."
I went to the near by ice scream stand and got two vanilla cones. I was heading back when I stopped in front of the souvenir shop. Inside was the cutest hat I'd ever seen, Minnie Mouse ears with a princess tiara. My inner child's heart skipped a beat and I ran inside. Quickly enough I got lost looking at all the things, it was only when I saw a group of paparazzi that I decided to head back. I crept in the opposite direction but a pair caught me and began to question me.
"What can you say about this picture?" They shouted showing me a photograph of Leo and I hugging.
"Are you dating?"
I scooted back but ended up crashing into another group of paps.
"It's Leo's girlfriend Karla!"
"What's it like dating a celebrity."
I walked back into a shelf of stuffed toys as the rest of the paparazzi ran over.
"Karla over here!" They shouted snapping pictures.
"Weren't you charged with murder back home!"
I dropped the ice creams in horror and ducked under a table beside me.
"Are you just dating Leo just for his money?!"
"No for the fame!"
I pulled my knees to my chest as they pulled up the table cloth and continued to snap pictures of me.
"Hey what are you doing?" Shouted a woman.
"Get out before I call security!" She screamed again.
They scattered away as I sat their numbly. The table cloth was pulled up again and someone gave me their hand. I took it and climbed from out under.
"Are you okay?" The woman asked
From the name tag on her shirt I concluded she was Amber the assistant manager.
"Yeah I'm fine, thank you."
"Paparazzi are crazy, I don't even know how most of them get in."
I looked down at the melting ice cream on the floor.
"Here." Amber said plucking two sticks of cotton candy off a stand,"Have a nice day."
"Thank you, I will." I smiled softly.
I walked out of the store and back to the group.
"You didn't get ice scream?" Leo asked once he saw me.
"Oh no, I wanted cotton candy instead." I lied.
