Lydia- The Pet Communicator

Chapter 24

Drake and I, searched for my father everywhere in the house, but he wasn’t there. We also hurried to our second home, the shelter, to look for him there, however we didn’t find him there too. I asked the pets if they had happened to see him, nevertheless they even refused to see him go out of the house or anywhere

I kept Garcon with all the other pets in the shelter and asked them to look after their new friend. All of them started to exchange a few words and Garcon seemed comfortable with the pets.

“Drake, where will we look for him now?” I asked curiously and heaved a sigh. Drake was completely quiet. I walked over to a bench in our shelter, and sat there silently. I was actually petrified, despite the fact that I didn’t want my fears to overpower me. I thought this was the right time to inform the police about everything. What if someone tried to harm my father, similar to Lucky?

I glanced at Drake, who was leaning on a tree at the shelter and shouted, “Drake, I need to call the police immediately! Could you contact Antonio?” Drake told me once about his friend Antonio, merely, about his profession while we were doing our studies two weeks ago. I never asked him more about his friends or family, nor he cared to tell me, which was strange.

Drake gave me a half nod and gave me a wave to wait, while sitting next to me on the bench. He shoved out his phone from his shirt pocket and called his friend Antonio right away. Antonio was a senior police officer, and Drake’s very good friend. Drake gave him each and every strong detail about my father over the phone, like, when he was found missing, about his appearance and regarding all the issues going on from before in our house.

After ending the call, Drake mumbled, “They are on their way. Actually, I wanted to call Antonio long back, but I was waiting for you to ask me. Everything will be fine now.”

Drake rested his head backwards on the bench and closed his eyes for some time, he seemed restless. I didn’t want to pull him along with me in my misfortune, and I warned him earlier about it too. He was only suffering because of me. I mumbled, “Drake?”

Drake looked at me apprehensively and replied, “Yeah?”

“You are still free to go. I don’t want to make your life a living hell because of me.”

Drake spanked his lap and laughed out falsely,“What?”

“I mean it Drake. You still have a chance to move on. Don’t spoil your future because of me.”

Drake shook his head in disappointment, and yelled, “So this is it? You don’t even know the depth of my love for you! Your life is my life! Your pain is my pain, you laugh I laugh, you die I die! Get it?” Drake got up angrily and walked out of the main gate.

I started weeping after he left, I couldn’t control myself anymore. My heart was filled with so much pain and everyone had to suffer because of me, including the pets. I couldn’t give much attention to them, nor they even complained about it. I wiped away my tears and strolled over to the safe haven. I started playing with my pets while, trying to keep myself cool, calm and collected. None of the pets inquired about my father too. It seemed they were helping me keep my mind away from his thoughts even though, it was impossible for me.

Just in a while, I heard a car stop outside our house. I moved up right away to check who came, expecting that it might be the police, but to my surprise, it was my one and only missing father. He entered the backyard with Drake next to him and they were too busy talking to each other. My father looked calm and Drake was listening to his explanations carefully, with a continuous smile on his face.
