Lydia- The Pet Communicator

Chapter 39

After two months, we started a non- governmental organization for all homeless and sick animals. We purchased a huge farm house to start this organization and named it- Pelydra (Pe-Ly-Dra) Services. The word ‘Pelydra’ came from our names- Peter, Lydia and Drake. We got numerous funds and sponsors, since a lot of people started supporting us for the noble cause.

Our organization also worked as an adoption agency, where the pets could find their perfect owners. Exactly, this time the pets would choose their owners by telling me whom they want to live with. I was pleased to see the citizens trying to save the animals around them, or either taking steps to give them a better life.

Anyway, my divine shelter still existed in the backyard of our house. I didn’t want to shift any of my pets to the organization as I was really attached to them. I wanted them in front of my eyes as soon as I wake up in the morning or before going to bed at night. My pets were more like best friends to me, they knew how hard I struggled to achieve my goals, while facing terrible situations and they always motivated me.

Good news, Luke and Jena got married in our shelter a few days ago, not really, but they gave birth to four adorable kittens without tying a knot. It’s quite acceptable in the animal kingdom.

So, everything in my life was going on really well. My parents were happy together and I had forgiven my mother with all my heart, because she worked really hard to get me back and bring peace in the house.

Drake moved in with us after his friend Eric left. Eric stayed with us for at least a month and we spent a lot of good time together. He was a total charm and he became a part of our family very quickly. We all missed him after he left, but he promised he will come back soon.

Furthermore, Drake was getting a transferred to Manchester with a better salary, but he rejected it, since he didn’t want us to be away from each other. Now, he helps me in taking care of the organization and he gives lectures in universities as a part time job.

“Lydia! I have been looking for you everywhere. What are you doing in the shelter? We are getting late for your awards!” Drake shrieked.

“Chill baby, I am ready. I was just feeding my lovely pets before getting ready, don’t know how long will it take there, after all it’s the ‘Wetnose Animal Awards’”

“It’s such a big thing Lydia! The Wetnose is so popular in the United Kingdom.”

I rolled my eyes at Drake annoyingly and whispered to Marwa, “Drake is more excited than me.”

“Drake is always excited, since he loves you so much Lydia. I want a partner like him.” Marwa grunted.

“I will take you to Pelydra. There we have four to five hot male horses.” I teased Marwa intentionally.

“Marwa likes females!” Bruno joked and the other pets started laughing on his joke.

Bruno was in deep trouble now, as Marwa started revealing her anger. She was in progress of kicking Bruno as hard as she could.

“Bruno, run!” Garcon yelled.

Garcon and Bruno became really good friends, while the other dog Mike, always stayed silent.

I held Marwa before she could chase Bruno in the backyard, as they might break some things around here and the shelter was newly built just two months back.

“Marwa, please don’t do anything right now. I will see Bruno after I come back from the awards. Drake is getting mad and I am getting late.”

Marwa calmed down right away, and Bruno also apologized to her immediately. It was great to see all my pets tuning well with each other, day by day.

Just then, I hurried to my room and got ready quickly for the awards. I got many calls from the clients in between, but I couldn’t attend any as I had to rush. Drake was literally yelling at me.

When I was jogging downstairs, my mother, father and Drake were grinning at me like I was some fairy god mother from a boring fairy tale.

“What? Am I looking good or bad? Is something going on in here?” I asked curiously.

“You passed with A+ grade in all the subjects! You are among the top three students of this year!” My father chirped loudly with full excitement.

“Is this some joke daddy?”

My father shoved out a paper from his pocket and handed it to me without delay. Everyone’s grin was still glued on their faces. He was right. I got A+ in all the examinations I gave.

I smiled broadly while scanning through my results. Then, I rolled my examination results and started jumping in joy. Everyone praised me highly and gave me tight hugs.

“Okay, now let’s hurry. I hope we reach for the Wetnose Awards on time!” Drake spoke out loudly.

All of us hurried out of the house with huge smiles on our faces, and my father drove us to the place where we were invited for the Wetnose Animal Awards ceremony.

We entered a huge building, where we could hear the award giving ceremony going on, because of the loud speakers outside. A bunch of people cheered after noticing my entrance. In a little while, a director of Wetnose came forward to lead us to the front row.

“You may take a seat here with your family miss, as the next award is yours. You came on time and thanks for coming too.” He spoke politely.

As I looked up the stage, a young lady was giving a thanks giving speech with her award in hands. She was really happy and nervous. The audiences applauded when she got completed her speech.

Next, the man who was hosting the ceremony glanced at me before continuing his dialogues. It gave me a feeling that it was my turn to receive the award then.

“The next award and final award goes to Ms. Lydia Peter! This award is for ‘Best service Award’ Congratulations Lydia!” The host spoke loudly.

I climbed up on the stage and received my award from the founder of Wetnose and kissed it with appreciation.

“Miss, do you want to say something?’ The host asked, with a smile.

I smiled back with a nod and walked to where the microphone was placed.

“Hello there and good afternoon to all of you. Thank you for the wonderful award Wetnose, you guys are also doing a wonderful job by rescuing the animals and motivating other people to do the same by giving such beautiful awards.

I want to thank my father and Drake for supporting me and having faith in me, when everyone turned their backs on me. This award is for both of you actually, for pushing me when I was down and holding my hands when the whole world thought I had lost my mind.

This award also goes to my pets who gave me courage to fight tough situations and to my mother for finally believing me. Thank you all once again.”

It was hard to complete my speech, but I accomplished it by looking at my father and Drake who were sitting in front of me with smiles that reach their eyes. I felt like crying with the mix emotions I was having. So, I hurried down the stage and hugged my father tightly.

Everyone in the audience applauded and cheered for the longest time ever.

**THE END**
