Lydia- The Pet Communicator
Chapter 13
The long lovely ride ended, I didn’t feel like getting down. I wanted Drake to be in my arms all day, but it had to stop anyway. Drake got down first, and gave me his hand to get me down from the horse like a gentleman. As I was getting down, Clara came running towards the shelter.
Lydia! I am back! Your father told me to look after…” Before she finished her conviction, her eyes fell on our hands. Drake was still holding my hands. She looked at me quizzically, and I knew she was about to pop up a silly question.
“New boyfriend huh, when did it happened? You didn’t even tell me.” Drake left my hand straight off, and walked away to keep Marwa back to her seat.
“No, Drake is my tutor and we became good friends, really. I can’t hide things from you!”
“It doesn’t look like it. It's clearly written on your face that you like him a lot. You are blushing, girl!"
“If my father told you to look after me, why didn’t he tell you about Drake?” I spoke irritably.
Lucky came running towards me, it looks like he missed me a lot. I sat on my knees and played with him. He started licking my cheek. “Hey love, it looks like you missed me so much. Want to have some biscuits?” Lucky barked, “Not now, I want to play with you and Clara for some time.”
Clara sat down beside me, and took Lucky in her arms. She kissed him on his mouth, which I thought was gross. She was, of course, a dog lover. She has two dogs, and they are really cute too.
“Lydia, your father told me each and everything. He told me about your communication with the animals, and because of not believing you, Ricky and your mother left you. I am sorry for not being there for you. I had to go out of town as my grandmother passed away, you know.”
Why did my father tell her everything? I didn’t want to lose her too, that’s why I hid about the about the animal communication thingy. She continued, “Can you please show me what you can do? How can you communicate with the animals?” At least she asks me to prove her, and not running away from me. I thought to myself.
I quickly nodded, and invited Drake for help.
“Good to see his in your favor, I can see that he likes you a lot.” Clara mumbled.
I rolled my eyes at her, and wondered, Why is everyone after us being one? The truth is we like each other, but it’s not so easy to confess. I don't want to fail my exams by falling in love with my tutor.
“Drake, can you please whisper your dirty little secret to Lucky? Let’s see what you have in store for us to know.” Drake nodded, and Lucky started wriggling his tail, while listening to Drake. Then, Lucky came to me and barked, “I love Lydia.”
“Did you just say you love me?” I asked, looking at Drake confused. He refused, “I didn’t say that, I told him that I want to go home. Why is he not telling the truth?
“Lucky! What are you doing?” I glared at him darkly.
“I am sorry. I just want happiness in your life. Drake is perfect for you. So I thought to do it this way.” Lucky growled.
“But, you proved me wrong!”
“Lydia, it’s alright. I know it’s not possible for humans to understand the thoughts of animals. Your father and Drake just don’t want to upset you. The truth is they are supporting you falsely.” Clara spoke, while shifting her gaze to Drake.
“It’s true. She can talk to animals Clara. I have been with her for two and half months. I have seen everything. Trust her.” Drake spoke in between.
“Oh, so a stranger comes and tells me to trust my best friend? You just want her okay! Don’t keep her in the fake world.”
“Clara, whatever he is saying is true. Give me one more chance to prove yourself.” She nodded, and looked at me unblinkingly, waiting for me to prove her again.
I brought out Marwa from the shelter, I asked Drake to do the same thing again. He whispered something in her ear, and then I asked her to speak whatever Drake whispered, but she was silent. “Come on, speak up Marwa. What’s wrong with you?” Just then, I noticed her passing out stool, and then more of it came out watery.
“Oh god, this was bad. I am sorry, what did he say? I lost concentration.” Marwa neighed.
“So ask her to speak up Lydia, why can’t you prove me?” Clara spoke angrily.
“Give her one more chance, the horse is not well. We can try some other animal.” Drake spoke after her.
“You think I am crazy like you, huh? Ricky left her, and so did her mother. There must be some vivid reason behind their leaving.”
“Clara? Is that you? How can you be so rude?” I asked with shock.
“Lydia, please listen to me. You need a psychiatrist You can't spoil your life this way.” She responded while putting her hands over my shoulders. I pushed her off, “Leave it! Don’t trust me, and you know what I don’t need anyone.”
“Fine, I am going. Have a happy crazy life.” And she walked away, she didn’t even look back.
I sat on the ground, and started crying out loud. I lost her too. No animal supported me today, it wasn’t their fault too. It was just bad luck. Drake sat on his knees, and hugged me tight. “Shh, please don’t cry. Everything will be fine soon. I have faith that everyone will come back.”
“Sorry Lydia, I didn’t know this could happen. My stomach is paining badly.” Marwa grunted, passing more watery stool.
“It’s all because of me she left, I am sorry girl.” Lucky licked my arms.
“You guys are useless. You could have asked us to do something.” The new cats purred.
I just couldn’t stop crying. Drake’s shirt was soaked in my tears. I couldn’t even let go of him. “Can you please take me in? I am feeling dizzy.” I requested. My whole world is falling apart. I was glad my father and Drake still believed me. Drake carried me in his arms, and took me to my bedroom.
Lucky followed us behind, he kept on saying sorry. I wasn’t mad at him. It was just my ill-fate.
“Can I stay with you today?” Drake asked politely.
I nodded in agreement, I was not feeling good, and there was no one to look after me or the pets. I also couldn't call my dad to come back early. I didn’t want to give him any more troubles because of me. Lucky climbed on the bed beside me and looked at me, making a sorry face.
“Lucky it's fine, please don’t say sorry all the time.” I spoke.
Lucky licked my face, almost cleaning every tear on my face. I ruffled his fur and he sat beside me, looking at me innocently.
“Close your eyes and rest please, come here.” Drake spoke as he lay down on the bed, and tapped on the pillow next to him for me sleep near to him. It wasn’t easy, but I didn’t care about anything right now. I just wanted peace for some time.
