Lydia- The Pet Communicator
Chapter 38
Eric and Drake were terribly horrified as they got handcuffed by the police while they were still in bed. They struggled hard to free themselves, but it didn’t help a tiny bit. The police officers overpowered them. We needed to help each other at this time, since we all were physically drained and sleepy.
The police officers drove us to their department, without wasting a minute. I was really scared, but Drake and Eric gave me self-assurance.
“Sorry Eric, you got into trouble because of us. Your holiday is wasted.” Drake apologized.
“We tried to do good Drake so I have no regret. I believe that we will get out soon, if they allow us to pay the fine.” Eric replied thoughtfully.
When we reached the police department, I saw a crowd out-crying my name with large hoardings that said: ‘Help Lydia, Save Animals’, ‘We love Lydia', 'Stop being cruel to animals’, ‘Free Lydia’ and much more. The policemen were controlling the crowd by pushing them away from the border line, which was made quickly by the officers before I turned up.
I gave a wave to the crowd and everyone started cheering my name louder, also they clapped their hands in appreciation. It really felt amazing to have so many people in my support.
Antonio was standing at the entrance, waiting for us to arrive. He held my hand and welcomed me in the department with high respect. Even some officers bent their heads down in admiration when I entered the department. The police officer who held us was shocked by the behavior of people around him.
Antonio ordered, “Leave Eric, he is our guest and we have no evidence against him.”
“But sir,” One junior officer objected immediately.
“Do as I say! Or you’re fired!”
They released Eric right away. Drake and I were put behind bars just then. Antonio came inside the lockup to meet us and he whispered joyfully, “I tried gathering the people here. If crowd gets wild, you might be released in two hours instead of two days.”
“Can’t our father give bail for us?” Drake asked immediately.
Antonio shook his head in denial, “I can’t say anything now, because the dog pound was a government’s property and even the zoo animals. I am sorry Drake and Lydia, but the superintendent will decide your case. All the people are with you, and you have no previous criminal records too. So, fingers crossed.”
“Why can’t you? Like you decided for Clara and team?” I asked Antonio politely.
“The case was different Lydia and it wasn’t related to any government property.”
“What the hell?” I shrieked in grief.
Antonio walked out of the lockup with a half smile. I put my head on Drake’s shoulder and started weeping, “Hope everything will be fine Drake. I just wanted to protect the animals. Sorry for getting you into difficulties.” Drake ran his hand over my face and didn’t reply me back.
A junior police officer came inside the lockup and gave us some water to drink. I quickly realized it was David, the one who always sticks around with Antonio in the police department. He mumbled with a smile, “A lot of people are gathering outside to support you, along with the animals. There are like fifty dogs outside. You are going to make it out of here very soon.”
I smiled back at him gracefully, and gulped down some water. Then, David pulled a small television which was kept on a moving stand, in close proximity to our lock up, so we could watch what was going on outside the department. A lot of news channels were covering the scene.
The mass was increasing with more people and animals, joining in for our support. It really made me proud and pleased. My aim in life was completed, and that was to show everyone that I am truly an animal communicator.
Antonio came back to visit us in some time. He spoke happily, “The superintendent asked me to free you guys after six hours. So till then, enjoy some time alone and I will bring anything you would like to eat.”
“Huh?” I asked confusingly.
Suddenly, Eric came from behind Antonio and spoke, “I took the superintendent and some senior officers to the dog pound secretly, and asked them to watch how the animals are being treated there. Then, we also went to meet the care taker at the hospital and he told the truth to the police regarding their ill treatment with the dogs there. So, the superintendent gave his statement to release you both after six hours.”
I jumped with excitement in the lockup and hugged Drake tightly. We both were really happy. In a little while, I heard some loud claps and heavy footsteps coming towards the lockup, it was my father clapping his hands in pride. Antonio opened the lockup for my father, and he came in to talk with us.
“Lydia, you made me proud today. Everyone is waiting for you outside and people are treating me with respect because of you. I was amazed to see the animals gathering outside with so many people. Even, the animals at the shelter miss you.” My father informed.
“Thank you daddy, I wouldn’t be here without your support. You know how many times I had given up, then you and Drake became my saviours.”
“I don’t know how to thank Drake, because the word- thank you is really not enough.” My father pulled Drake into a tight hug. Eric and Antonio were grinning at us.
“Where is mum?” I asked immediately.
“She went to meet her old friends who were in the lockup from before. She just wanted to thank them for opening her eyes, and to tell them about your success.”
“You mean Clara and team?” My father nodded instantly and chuckled.
“Okay guys, meeting time is over. Talk to your father after you have been released.” Antonio spoke loudly intentionally, as he noticed an officer pass by.
My father walked out and I glanced at the television screen. The crowd kept on getting bigger and bigger every hour. I smiled proudly, and sat on the bench inside the lockup with relief. Drake sat beside me on the bench and we started talking non-stop, we even took a nap inside for about two hours.
After six hours, Antonio came and woke us from our sleep, “Hey guys, don’t you want to go home? You’re free!” Drake and I got really excited in the lockup and we started screaming like crazy, “Yay! Wohooo! We are sooo going home! It’s time to party!”
A few officers saluted us with respect and led us outside the department. The crowd was still there, even after six hours. Everyone started shouting in joy and happiness when they noticed us approaching. The animals were there too, they made different noises in contentment, which I understood easily.
All of a sudden, a bunch of people came ahead and carried us on their shoulders, others started dancing around us. My father started blowing amusing whistles while standing in the middle of the crowd, and my mother was hooting in enjoyment.
Drake and I exchanged high fives. This was the happiest moment of my life and it will be much more, after getting my examination results in two months.
