Lydia- The Pet Communicator
Chapter 32
Ha-ha! Come back Lucky! You naughty dog!
Woof- Woof
Lucky, don’t go so far, there is a very deep hole over there and if you fall in it, you will never come out again.
No Lucky! Listen to me. Come back!
I woke up scared stiff on small comfortable, but dissimilar bed, after the horrible dream. My forehead was covered in sweat and I was unstable. Shortly, after seeing myself once more in the same blue dress, as well as having medical instruments around me, I realized that I was hospitalized yet again. The room was silent, there was no one around me too. With the support of the bed’s frame, I stood up and walked outside the room to look for my father and Drake, or even a nurse.
I was astonished to see my mother sitting on a chair outside, with an expression of grief on her face. Her eyes and nose became red, because of the weeping.
“Mother?” I spoke slowly.
She looked at me with mixed emotions on her face. She got up the chair, and walked towards me fearfully. I could see the guilt in her eyes. Then, she held me by the shoulders and spoke happily, “Lydia! You are awake! I came here to check up on you after hearing you got unconscious in the animal hospital. Are you feeling better now?”
I pushed her away from me angrily, “Go away! I don’t want to see you!” How could I forget how she ditched my father and walked away from our lives when we needed her the most? My father cried every night for her.
She tried to speak something but, her lips quivered and tears flooded down her cheek. She took some steps backwards in shock and hurried out of the corridor. Soon, she was out of my sight. I ran back in my room and sat on the bed with terror. I gulped mouthful of air and groaned, while looking at the simple ceiling. I started wondering, why she was here? What did she want from us now?
Only then, a nurse walked in. She had raven black hair, equally dark eyes with a kind expression on her face. She looked like an Asian. I got to know her name by reading the tag on her uniform, it was Krishika. She gently spoke with a smile that reached her eyes, “Hello there. Sorry for being away. I went to call your family, after hearing you talk in your sleep. You gave us a sign of your consciousness.”
“Hello. Where is my father? I mean, why he is not here?” I spoke impatiently.
“Your father and Mr. Drake just left a few minutes back. They asked me to look after you and call them immediately as soon as you are awake. Both had some important work to do.” I nodded, while chewing my lower lip tensely.
Krishika gave me some medicines and asked, “By the way, did you meet your mother?”
I didn’t find it necessary to give her an answer, so I remained silent. Again, the nurse spoke out needlessly, “She was crying all the time sitting outside. She seems to love you a lot.”
“Why don’t you mind your own business young lady?” I yelled at the nurse rudely.
“I just sensed that your mother has been far from you for ages by the way she was reacting here, so I thought you would be interested to know! She never came in the room to see you. She would either peep or look at you through the window, and every time she used to ask about your recovery while sitting outside.”
I rolled my eyes at her irritably and sat on the bed with my arms crossed. I didn’t want to discuss this further. In a little while Drake walked in with Doctor Thomas next to him. Dr. Thomas was the same doctor who treated me when I was six months in a coma, and until my recovery.
