The quiet of the night settled softly around them as Tae and Jungkook stood at the doorstep, the warm glow of the street light casting gentle shadows. Tae held Taehee close, her tiny form nestled against him, her breaths soft and even. After a peaceful drive back home, he felt refreshed, his heart full with the memories of their day together, each one adding a little more warmth, a little more joy. His gaze drifted to Jungkook, his own face relaxed, still glowing with the day's happiness.
"Thank you..." Tae's voice was soft but sincere, a grateful smile tugging at his lips. He looked at Jungkook, his gaze steady, conveying everything he felt. "Thank you so much for everything today. It... it really meant a lot."
But Jungkook only pouted, folding his arms as he looked at Tae with playful look. "There you go, ruining everything by saying thank you," he mumbled, his tone light. Then, his face broke into a grin. "And anyway, the day's still not over. You're still my boyfriend, remember?"
Tae chuckled, shaking his head. "You didn't let me forget?" he replied, glancing away to hide the small smile he couldn't suppress. But there was a quiet pause, a peaceful silence between them, and Tae found himself standing there a little longer, his heart unexpectedly calm, even content.
Then, Jungkook broke the silence, his tone suddenly softer, more serious. "Tae?"
Tae looked up, meeting his gaze. "huh?"
Jungkook's eyes were filled with an emotion Tae hadn't seen before, something deep and unguarded. "Would you come with me," he asked, his voice low, "if I asked you out?"
Tae's eyes widened in surprise. "Right now?" he asked, thrown by the suddenness of it.
Jungkook nodded, his expression sincere, his gaze holding a quiet intensity that made Tae's heart race. Tae hesitated, glancing at Jungkook, noting the slight tiredness in his eyes, the faint lines of exhaustion that he'd tried to hide all day. "But we just got back... you didn't rest for a single moment," he murmured, the concern clear in his voice.
Jungkook gave a small, tired smile, but there was a warmth in his eyes that was too pure, too real to ignore. "Please?" he whispered, a slight pout forming. "Are you going to reject your boyfriend?"
Tae chuckled softly, shaking his head, but the sincerity in Jungkook's gaze melted any resistance he might have had. A gentle, almost shy smile crossed his face. "What about Taehee?" he asked, glancing at his daughter in his arms.
Jungkook's smile widened, his eyes lighting up as if he'd just won the lottery. "Already taken care of," he said with a grin. "Mrs. Choi's agreed to look after her tonight."
Tae's eyes widened in surprise. "Wait... so you already planned this?"
Jungkook scratched the back of his neck, chuckling sheepishly. "Well... maybe I thought a little ahead," he admitted, his gaze soft as he looked at Tae. "Just a minute, I'll be right back." He jogged over to his house, returning moments later with a small bag, which he held out to Tae. "You can change into this," he said, smiling as he handed it over. "I'll take Taehee to Mrs. Choi."
Tae glanced down at the bag, then back at Jungkook, his heart pounding a little faster. He really thought of everything. He bent down, pressing a soft kiss to Taehee's forehead before gently placing her into Jungkook's arms. "Thank you," he murmured, the words slipping out without thought, but filled with gratitude.
Jungkook just grinned, cradling Taehee close. "I'll wait," he whispered before he left, disappearing around the corner with Taehee in his arms, his happiness visible in his wide smile.
