His friends were definitely nice. Sitting with them at the small campfire was a totally different atmosphere than with my usual group. No offense to them (except for Minho maybe), but I wasn't worried about saying something that would get me lectured. Or being glared at just because Aris was holding my hand, keeping me from destroying my arm.
There was Rachel though, sitting across from us with a smug grin.
“We leave you alone for a few weeks and you come back with a girlfriend,”Harriet teased, a playful smile on her lips.
“After being in a Maze of them, you pick one from a group of guys,”Sonya added, her voice just as affectionate.
“Wait, wait, wait. That means they're like the opposite gender version of each other. No wonder Aris wouldn't shut up about her.”
He glared at her as she gave a simple shrug, not a care in the world. This is nice. For once.
“Going on about me, huh?”I whispered. His entire face flushed, causing me to laugh a little as I held his hand a little tighter. He rolled his eyes as thumb rubbed small circles on the side of my hand.
“So what happens now?”Rachel asked.
“We have to get on the move. It's important to keep safe,”Harriet answered.
“Do I have to help pack?”She sighed.
“None of you know where anything is so no. Next time though-”
“Nooo. No next time,”She drew out.“She's awful at being organized,”Sonya explained.
“Ah. Makes sense.”
The two girl's started talking amongst themselves about packing up and what the plans were. Not exactly interested, I rested my head on Aris’s shoulder. With his free hand, he patted my head before tucking yet another stray strand of hair behind my ear.
As we were all basking in the moment, in the feeling of safety, Thomas suddenly ran past us, his expression one of panic. Standing up, I went to ask my friend what happened only to immediately get the answer.
Out of nowhere, a bomb dropped from helicopters or something like that. Grabbing Tommy Boy, I made sure he was okay as I checked his pulse, not really knowing what else to do. As I did, he grabbed my hand, pulling me somewhere.
Ducking behind a car, he was breathing heavily, his eyes wide with fear.
“What's going on?”I asked, feeling the need to stay quiet.
As the machines landed and I risked looking at them, I immediately got my answer as Ava Paige stepped out, Janson at her side.
“Shuck, shuck, shuck. What do we do?”
“I don't know.”
“Aris. I’ve got to find Aris,”I remembered.
“Y/N,”He called, pulling on my shirt. Not caring about it, not minding if it even ripped, I sprinted out of his grip before standing out in the open, frantically looking around. I don't even care how we were found at this point. As long as I found him.
Gunshots started from both sides, making me want to duck my hand. Still, I didn't, crossing my fingers that a bullet didn't hit me as I moved forward ignoring it.
“If you come peacefully, we won't use force,”Janson said as if the first thing they did wasn't blow this place up.
A gun. I should probably find one. It's like the one self defense I’m good at. I mean I don't actually know what to do right now. I just feel lost.
