Yoongi’s weary, shadowed eyes had just begun to drift into a deep sleep. True rest had become a rare visitor, slipping away every time he reached for it, as if he’d have to wait for ages before he could truly savor it again. Peace, love, and sleep all seemed to vanish, leaving their absence felt deep within his bones.
His brief escape into slumber was abruptly interrupted by the sharp ring of his phone. Begrudgingly, he reached for it, surprised to see the name flashing on the screen. Startled, his face shifted to a look of disbelief, his voice stern and laced with irritation.
“Do you know what time it is?”
A soft, tinkling voice responded swiftly from the other end, “It’s just half past three in the morning.”
“Oh, and that’s ‘just’ to you?” Yoongi grumbled in a low voice.
Jimin wasn’t fazed by his tone. Turning to his side, he clutched the phone and replied with eager enthusiasm, “I had a dream about you, Yoongi hyung.”
Yoongi’s patience was wearing thin. His eyes burned with exhaustion. “You called me at this hour to talk about a dream? I swear, I’ll break your bones, you little rascal!”
“Why are you scolding me? Don’t. Please don’t. The dream was about you, a really beautiful one.” Jimin’s voice held a tender sweetness that could melt any man’s heart. Yoongi felt a pang in his chest, and he brought his hand up to feel his heartbeat, noticing the coldness within.
“I’m not scolding. Just say what you want quickly—I’m trying to sleep.”
Though Jimin had been chattering without a break, now his voice was caught, shyly faltering. Blushing fiercely, he stammered out the words he’d seen in his dream, words laced with embarrassment and longing.
“I saw my uncle coming to our house with a marriage proposal. You told everyone you couldn’t live without me, that you wanted to marry me. Then… I don’t remember the rest, but we got married. On our wedding night, you were deep in thought, and you called me over. You asked, ‘Will you hold me close, Jiminie?’ And with my head pressed against your chest, you whispered, ‘I once loved someone, Jimin.’ Is it true, hyung? Did you love someone?”
Yoongi froze, silence filling the void left by Jimin’s question. He sat up, startled, his voice tense and stern.
“What nonsense are you saying? Hang up, right now.”
But Jimin’s broken voice repeated the same question, desperate for an answer.
“Did you love someone?”
Yoongi’s heart sank as bitter memories resurfaced. He realized that Jimin’s so-called dream was merely a pretense, an attempt to get the truth. But how much did he know? Yoongi opened his eyes wide in the half-darkness of his room, the realization striking him.
“No.”
Jimin grew desperate, his voice choked with tears, his beautiful eyes likely brimming with sorrow that Yoongi could almost feel. “You’re lying. I know you liked Suzy. That’s why you could never bear to look at me. Ever since I found out, I’ve been restless, unable to sleep, so I had to call you.”
“Who told you all this?” Yoongi’s voice was sharp, probing.
But Jimin didn’t answer. His voice was filled with melancholy, soaked in unshed tears. Speaking was a struggle, as though all the pain in the world was strangling him. Yoongi listened, feeling the weight of each breath Jimin took, the silence stretching on for minutes. Wiping his own tears, Jimin finally spoke in a voice full of longing.
