A day later, in her office, Lana furrowed her eyebrows as she was reading the final version of Y/N's article. The girl was sitting across from her, waiting anxiously, her hands folded neatly on her lap. Lana's eyes scanned the text with critical eyes, then looked up to meet Y/N's gaze, who held her breath, hoping to hear something positive.
'Well, it's not what I expected...' She locked eyes with Y/N, her expression unreadable, almost like she was evaluating something more than just the article itself. There was a slight edge in her tone that made Y/N's heart race.
The girl opened her mouth to defend herself, but then closed it when Lana continued, her words cutting through the silence.
'It's better. Congratulations. This shows me you're ready to be unleashed' Lana said, a smile tugging at her lips as she stood up from the couch.
'From now on, feel free to write about anything,' Lana added, walking over to her desk with the papers in her hand. Y/N's eyes followed her every move, still trying to process the words that had just left her boss' mouth.
'Anything?' Y/N smile grew bigger.
'Wherever the wind blows you' Lana smiled back.
'Even politics?' The young journalist asked hopefully, her voice a little higher than usual.
'The wind's not going to blow you there.' Y/N's face fell slightly, the reality of limitations beginning to sink in.
'What about religion, poverty, economics?' Y/N raised her eyebrows. She wanted to know just how far this "freedom" really extended.
'This wind is really more of a light breeze' Lana said with a slight chuckle, her voice warm but firm.
'What can I write about, Lana?' Y/N asked, her patience wearing thin.
'Whatever you want. Shoes, laser therapy, dressing for your body type. Use your imagination. The sky is the limit.'
'Thank you for this opportunity, Lana' Y/N said, her voice steady despite the disappointment that crept in. There was no denying the opportunity in front of her, but it was far less exciting than what she had expected.
'Okay' Lana replied casually, barely looking up from her desk as she shuffled some papers around.
'And thank you for making it easy for me to turn down.' Y/N smiled, a lighthearted edge to her tone as she reached for her coat and left Lana's office.

A week later, Jenna still felt awful. She had spent the last few days replaying every moment in her mind, trying to figure out where things had gone wrong.
Sure, she had been angry with Y/N at first, the girl had used her, manipulated the situation, and left her feeling like she didn't matter. But the more Jenna thought about it, the more she realized that she had done the same thing in return. She had been so caught up in her emotions, so blinded by anger and frustration, that she hadn't stopped to think about how her actions would affect the other person. She had hurt Y/N, just like Y/N had hurt her. In the end, it was a mess of mistakes on both sides, but ultimately, she was left feeling like the villain in her own story.
'No, I mean, look, it's not something I'm proud of' Jenna leaned back in her office chair, running a hand through her hair. She sighed deeply, her voice quiet but heavy with regret. Her eyes wandered to the window for a moment, lost in thought as she reflected on everything that had happened.
'Obviously, if I could do it over again, I'd do some things differently, you know' she wondered. 'I tell you, it's good to talk to you, though, girl. It really is' she said, her voice softening as she turned her attention to Valkyrie, who was sitting at her feet, wagging her tail. 'At the end of the day, you are the only one that knows us both' Jenna added with a smile, feeling some comfort in the dog's loyal presence.
