chapter five
it's beach jam time

"IT IS SO GOOD TO BE BACK, I missed it here." nate said, going into shane's cabin and laying on the bed.

"you know on the way here he was talking about how excited he was for color jam." jason said. "dude!"

"you're more excited for the day where we throw paint at each other more than performing with your brothers? how kind." shane said.

"i want to see if i could find that girl." nate said. "it's sage, and i actually became friends with her." shane said.

"can she build me a birdhouse?" jason said. "no." nate quickly responded.

"point her out for me in the crowd."

meanwhile, mitchie and caitlyn tugged on sage's arms, sage planting her feet on the ground. "you're going to beach jam!" caitlyn said.

"no i'm not, you won't get me there!" sage said. "you're already dressed, why the sudden change of mind!" mitchie said.

"i want to get my rest for color jam tomorrow." sage said. "no way! connect 3 is performing, you're going to want to watch." caitlyn said.

"i see shane's face everyday, i don't want to watch a bunch of girls going crazy over him." sage said. "let's go, before everyone takes all the good spots!" mitchie said.

"you don't even have to watch shane, watch jason or nate!" sage said. "nate." sage whispered, forgetting about her resisting.

"let's go."

mitchie and caitlyn smiled, confused on the second sudden change in her choice. sage picked up the blanket they were going to sit on, walking out the cabin with her friends.

sage had totally forgotten about nate, but not in a bad way. she just didn't want to get out of her bed, and just was going to avoid beach jam.

she had forgotten specifically that he was coming once this summer, and she wanted to see the nate shane always spoke to highly about.

sage really wanted to stay back and snoop around in brown's office and see if she could find anything but her curiosity had taken over and now she was sitting on a blanket with mitchie, sander, barron, lola, and caitlyn.

brown came on stage, shane trailing behind him. "hey gang." he said.

"we love you brown!" a boy shouted from the crowd. "woah! all right, all right." brown said as everyone clapped.

"okay, score. i finally talked my nephew into singing us a song."  brown said and shane walked to the mic as he waved.

"shane, rock the camp!" brown said, walking off. shane went up to the mic, holding it. "hey guys, i got a surprise for you."

"guys, come on out." he said pointing to the cabin next to the stage. the cheers got louder, the other two members coming down to the stage.

a guy with long hair came out, and then one with curly hair. sage craned her neck to see his face, his head down as he walked.

he then looked up, waving at the crowd and standing at the mic to shane's left.

shane looked at him, and then at sage and then back at his brother. the boy smiled at her, and sage immediately turned away.

he was the cutest boy sage had ever seen in her fifteen years of life, he had such a cute face, cute hair, cute face again, and just cute cute cute.

but that didn't matter, she was hear for a mission and that was that.

sage was snapped out of her thoughts as the music started to play, and shane sang. barron threw his arms around lola and sage, rocking them side to side.

"say goodbye to all my fears. one good song, they disappear." shane said. "and nothing in the world can bring me down."

the boy then went to the mic, still playing his guitar as he began to sing. "hand clapping, hip shaking, heartbreaking there's no faking." he sang as his other brother joined in.

"there's no faking what you feel when you ride it home, yeah." they sang. they all began to sing the chorus together, shane obviously being in most of the spotlight.

he kept looking over at mitchie, and then mitchie would giggle and look over at caitlyn or sage. either way sage wasn't lookin at mitchie or anywhere.

she was enjoying the song even though she would never let shane admit that, but she was dancing and cheering. her eyes stayed on the curly head with his red guitar, watching his every move.

to her he just looked shy, and honestly she loved people who were shy at first but opened up later on in the friendship or relationship. it made her happy.

"can't imagine what it'd be like." he sang, and caitlyn yelled out. then the boy made direct eye contact with sage, and she waved at him.

this time he looked away, looking down at him  and his guitar. "without the sounds of all my heroes singin' all my favorite song!"

"so i can sing along!" shane and the boy sang, harmonizing.

"music's in my soul, i can hear it every day and every night, it's the one thing on my mind." he sang, the crowd and shane all clapping to the beat.

his voice was cute two, it was beautiful too. sage wished she could sing that good.

the brothers all sang again once more, two of them strumming their guitars aggressively. "music's in my soul i can hear it every day and every night it's the one thing on my mind!"

sage danced along with her friends, all of them jamming out to the song. when it was done everyone stood up and applauded them, and caitlyn and sage yelled, cheering.

they bowed, running off the stage and going probably back in the cabin.

as soon as they got off, nate was still looking at sage in the crowd. "she's even more beautiful in person." nate said.

"she's also annoying, perfect for you." shane said. "she smiled at you once, and you couldn't keep your cool." jason said.

"so i wasn't the only one who heard him play the wrong note?" shane said.

"both of you, shut. up."
