chapter fourteen
the boy and the bracelet"ARE YOU SURE IT'S OKAY" NATE said touching the eye that sage's bracelet had hit him with. "not a scratch." shane said.
"i'm really sorry about that." sage said, shane and nate turning around.
"oh, it's all good. i'm totally fine." nate said, pushing shane's arm off of his shoulder.
shane looked sage up and down, shaking his head at her. "i'm just happy i could catch it for you." nate said.
"well, it's always kind of been my lucky charm." sage shrugged. "i guess it still works."
"did you forget the part where you hit him in the eye?" shane said. nate looked at him, glaring.
"i'll be over there." shane said leaving, but not before looking at sage once more and then at his brother.
"friend of shane?" sage said, putting her hands in her pockets. "his brother actually." nate said, confused on how sage didn't remember him.
"oh. so i'm guessing you know how i am very hated by all of camp rock." sage said. "yeah um, we — yeah." nate said.
sage shrugged, looking down. "so..sage, you were amazing up there. the drum solo, it was perfect." nate said.
"you think? i'm just glad it's finally over." sage smiled. "we've been practicing for weeks, and still, every time i go on, i'm almost sure i'm gonna throw up." she laughed.
"i'm really glad you guys came. my dad was totally sure none of you would show."
nate made a confused face, going along with whatever game sage was playing. "my dad's axel turner." sage said.
"he's your dad?" nate said, and sage mouthed the words mockingly.
she laughed, "everybody says that, and kind of exactly like that."
"well, i guess i should go." she then spoke. "here. you don't wanna lose it." nate said, holding out the bracelet with the charm.
"you can keep it if you want." sage smiled. "what would i do with a bracelet?" nate said.
"right." sage said, chuckling awkwardly. "for the record, i'm glad you're okay."
"you have really pretty eyes."
nate moved his eyes around, smiling slightly. he was having insane deja vu, remembering when sage said the same thing to him in the strings cabin the summer prior.
"sorry, that was weird. i didn't mean to make you uncomfortable." sage said
"no, it's all good. people tell me that all the time." nate said, thinking back to what he had responded.
"probably because they're right in the middle of my face, so..."
"so..well.." sage said, trying to make conversation. she then turned, seeing her dad looking at her.
"um, i'll see you around." she nervously said, walking to her dad. "okay.
nate sighed, walking back to his brother. "yes, i wanna keep it, you have pretty eyes too. stupid." he said to himself.
"i'm an idiot. wow." nate said. "something we both can agree on." shane laughed.
nate punched shane, him holding his shoulder. "ow! strong idiot."
"i... i don't want you talking to that boy. not again, he got you off track once and i don't want it happening again." axel said to sage, who was looking off at nate
"don't worry, i don't think it's gonna be a problem."
—
"soo, i saw you talking to nate." dana said, smiling at her sister. "tell me all about it." she said, hitting her sister's knee in excitement.
"nate? who's nate?" sage said, her writing notebook open on her lap. "the guy you were talking to..who handed you you're bracelet. how did he get that, speak up sage!" dana said.
"oh that's his name?"
dana slouched, putting her entire body on sage's bed. "did you do that freaky, creepy, annoying thing you do?" she asked.
"what thing?" sage said. "that thing where you're so hurt about something you make yourself forget about it and everything having to do with it because you don't want to feel the pain." dana said.
"no, i didn't." sage said. "liar! but somehow you remember everyone else at camp rock, so obviously it was just nate you erased." dana said.
"i don't know what you're talking about." sage said, picking up her notebook. "sure you don't. just know your bracelet hitting nate of all people is fate."
"and maybe you made yourself forget, but alll those memories and all those stories of the small amount but cute moments you guys shared...still inside of you." dana said.
"still don't know what you're talking about." sage glanced to her sister, her writing in her notebook.
dana rolled her eyes, grabbing her towel from her bed. "you stink."
"says the one doing to take a shower."
nayah speaks !!
so..sage doesn't remember nate...how we feeling...
