chapter twenty two backwards moving
SAGE WAS GETTING MEASURED FOR costumes in the wardrobe department, her arms our as she spoke to her sister. "i don't know how you expect me to see him, our schedule is backed up like crazy and news flash, everyone hates me like crazy in camp rock." sage said.
"have you ever thought about the fact that it could've been in the heat of the moment? finding out who you were, that you lied? that was a whole year ago, i think they're mature enough to get over it." dana said.
"they're sixteen year olds. they are definitely not over it. believe me you'll understand that in two years." sage said. "i still think you should go visit him at camp rock. you don't even have to fully go in!" dana said.
"no way am i doing that dana. i'm done, i've accepted that he didn't want to talk to me and that's okay." sage said. "maybe he was nervous because he knew he wasn't supposed to be at camp star." dana said.
"catch him on his own turf, trust me! it won't be awkward. can you just try?" she spoke again.
"i don't even have time. i have to rehearse with tess and luke. dad wants to try tear it down, even thought he's leaning towards walking in my shoes." sage said.
"that's not until five! it's two, you're just making excuses." dana said. "i'm not going, i don't want to embarrass myself. i'll stay on my side of the lake." sage said.
"suit yourself." dana shrugged. "actually someone else is suiting me right now." sage said.
dana's smile faded at sage's horrible joke, shaking her head. "i cannot believe we're related." she said, leaving the wardrobe department.

sage took deep breaths as she sneakily made her way to camp rock, contradicting the statement she made to her little sister a few hours before.
there was many things that could go wrong with sage doing the stupidest thing ever. scenario one, since she's going against her dad's orders...both by her talking to nate and even going to camp rock he yells at her and grounds her for the summer — meaning she again cannot see nate — and hates her even more.
scenario two, she sees all her former friends from camp rock, they think she's spying on them, and they all hate her so much that they shove her into the lake to get her away and drown her. they yell rude remarks at her and hurt her for good.
scenario three, nate pretends he doesn't even like her so that the camp rockers don't hate him too, and again sage is hurt.
still sage was sneaking her way around her former camp, glad the people she was spotting were people who didn't really know her.
sage looked around as she crouched, then ended up bumping into someone and falling. "oh come on, who's clumsy—"
"hey alls—sage." shane said, his arm crossed as he looked at the girl on the phone. "hey." sage said, standing up and brushing dirt off her hands.
"why are you here?" shane said. "i wa—" sage started. "actually, i don't know. you need to go back to camp star, we don't want you here, i don't want you here.." shane said.
"shane about what happened last summer..i never hurt the camp so i didn't! and i'm sorry for lying okay, i couldn't tell the truth." sage said. "we got so close last summer, and now you act like you don't even know me."
"because i don't. i thought you were a good person, but you're not." shane said. "you know you said the same thing about mitchie, now you guys are dating. remember that lecture i gave you, it's ironic that you applied it to her but you can't apply it to me." sage said.
"i was going to ask you if you know where nate is but forget, i'll find him myself. you camp rockers really know how to make someone feel like a jerk." she said.
sage walked past shane, shaking her head at him. she knew he was hardheaded, she knew he was the dumbest person known to man, but she didn't think his head was that thick.
she went on a search for nate, hiding behind cabins and having to sprint away at the site of some of her former friends.
the first person she saw was sander, just like he was the first person she met. then she saw mitchie, then peggy, then barron, then caitlyn, and then ella.
they all looked so happy, and sage wondered what they would do if one of them saw her. they looked busy, and sage guessed that they were all counselors by the way they were guiding kids.
"oh gosh." sage said, seeing barron, peggy, and caitlyn all walking together. she quickly ran away, having nowhere to go she entered a random cabin, hoping it was empty.
"sage?"
she turned around, seeing nate who was sitting on his bed. "what are you doing at camp rock?" he spoke.
"uhh..i thought our last conversation was a bit..weird so i came to see....um — you." sage said, looking around to avoid nate's eye.
"you really shouldn't be here, like really." nate said. "as much as i would enjoy talking to you, you have to leave."
"but we're in the cabin, nobody will see me." sage said. "if jason comes in here, gosh if shane comes in here." nate said.
"i already saw shane, and jason has nothing against me. well..there is his birdhouse.." sage said.
"you saw shane! oh no, sage please just listen you have to go." nate said. "shane's going to tell mitchie and mitchie talks so much that the whole camp is going to find out. then it's going to get to brown, and then the first place they're going to check is here, my brothers and i's cabin. it will not end well for you, not for me."
"but..what if all that doesn't happen."
"no offense sage but you're not really liked here, just go." nate said. sage looked down, knowing that what nate said was true but it just hurt coming from him.
"okay." sage said quietly, leaving the cabin. she began to walk all the way back to the dock, where her boat was waiting for her.
meanwhile nate sighed, regretting everything he had just said to sage. it wasn't his intent at all to hurt her feelings, but he had, and once again...he was going backwards.
