chapter thirteen
sage under fire

SAGE WAS PRACTICING HER DRUM solo in her cabin, her focus anywhere but the sticks that were making noise in her cabin.

dana came inside, covering her ears as she did. "sage!" she said loudly.

sage didn't hear her sister, her mind far away from her actual body. dana went over to sage, snatching the drum sticks out her hand.

"hey!"

"you sound horrible." dana said. "hey." sage said again.

"you usually don't, but you were not paying attention to what you were playing at all." dana said. "what's on your mind." she sat on her bed.

sage said, "i keep thinking about what happened last summer. how everyone at camp rock hates me. i seem like a fake friend, a traitor, a liar. but i had so much fun last summer!"

"they were the only friends i had, just for me to start right back at square one." sage said. she got up, sitting on her bed across from dana's.

"all for this stupid camp." sage said. "i feel like dad only made it to get back at his old bandmate." brown said.

"yeah, i just can't understand why after all these years." sage said. dana shrugged, not saying anything.

sage and her dad always had their differences, but dana was axel's golden child and he would protect her with his life. she usually defended him to people who ask about him, but she never did it to sage because she knew it would never work.

"maybe you can explain to them the truth today, dad invited camp rock to our opening bonfire today." dana said.

"really?" sage's eyes widened. "yeah. so you might want to fix your drum solo or they're also going to think you're a fraud." dana said.
