chapter fifteen
thinking of the truth

"I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE DOESN'T remember me. she even said something she said to me last year and i responded the same way and she still didn't know me!" nate complained.

"maybe it's for the better." shane said. "how is it for the better if it hurt me so bad." nate said. "you know what she did." shane said.

"she might not be like her dad shane." jason said. "she's a liar, conniving, manipulative! you know who that sounds like...her dad!"

"i think he forced her to do it, obviously she didn't make any attempts to shut down camp rock because we are here..right now!" nate said.

"her dad made a strong one, taking most of our staff." he continued. "her not remembering you is for the better." shane said, patting nate's shoulder.

"you also did tell her you couldn't talk to her because of uncle brown so...it's also your fault." jason said.

"and i regretted it the moment i spoke it! shane you know her better than either of us, yet your the most against her." nate said.

"oh well, allstar went to all lie." shane said. "you're pathetic." nate said.

"you're pathetic! you're the one getting yourself all worked up for a girl you haven't seen since last summer, a girl who is now our enemy, and a girl that doesn't even remember you." shane said.

"shane, that's too far." jason said. "thanks for the painful reminder." nate said.

"i get it she lied, but you're not looking fully into the situation. i don't think she's the bad guy you make her out to be, you need to really put yourself in her shoes." nate sighed.

nate could say that he loved mitchie, but that would be weird considering that was his older brother's girlfriend.

thanks to her amazing plan of some of the campers — nate, jason, shane, mitchie, caitlyn, peggy, ella, sander, and barron — being counselors to fill the missing ones, nate was able to wander off and handle his problems.

which is how someway somehow he ended up on the edge of the land that was closets to the lake, with binoculars in his hand.

sage was on a platform that was built by axel that hung over the lake, a white piano on it. her songwriting notebook was in her lap, her violin on top of the piano.

she was in the process of writing notes and keys for a slow song she had finished writing hours before, not knowing about the boy who had been watching her.

nate was watching her as she did this process, unseated her as he was usually in charge of writing the songs for connect 3.

he watched as sage played a few keys, taking her pencil and writing in the purple notebook. then she picked up the violin, making music to nate's ears.

nate loved violin, and coming from her girl who was recently back in his life, it sounded even better.

he didn't care what shane said, he had never stopped thinking about sage. it started with him thinking about how could she do that to camp rock, then if it was even her idea, then of all the moments they shared that were awkward but cute to him.

sage coming back into his life just from a bracelet wasn't a coincidence, and he knew that for sure without a doubt.

so he continued to watch her from behind a tree with the binoculars, smiling as he watched the girl.

"nate?"

he jumped, "yeah?" nate said, turning to see shane. "shane."

nate chuckled, looking back at the lake. "what's up bro." he said. "what are you doing?" shane said, squinting his eyes.

"um..lifeguard duty." nate said, pointing to the lake as he turned around. shane looked at the clipboard, not seeing the word lifeguard even on the schedule.

"the schedule's a mess, but you can't be too careful." nate said, shane looking at him like he was crazy.

"just one last look."

nate turned, pretending he was looking around at the lake but really looking at sage.

"all good."

he got up, quickly leaving before shane could say anything too 'older brother' like or about how sage was a traitor.
