Chapter 26
LUNA'S POV
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spencer and I dash through the corridors. We warn everyone we meet about the incoming Tyrants. Most react with a calm determination that impresses me, but quite a few react with panic, which just makes me more worried.
Running no place in particular, we just go every which way, trying to warn as many people as we can. Finally, I run out of adrenaline and half to stop. I lean up against the wall and start to pant.
It takes me at least two minutes to be able to stand up and breathe. I look up at Spencer and smile, even though this situation is totally not a time to smile in. But he also smiles back, even though it's totally inappropriate as well.
He leans down and kisses me, and I kiss back with more emotion than ever. It's a rough passionate kiss. He pulls his hand through my hair, and I do the same to his. He pulls apart and leans down and kisses my neck. We come back together, but slower this time. More considerate that this could be one of the last times we see each other. I feel him pull me in closer. Now there is no space in between us. We are intertwined as one. That's when I hear it.
Footsteps. Slow footsteps. I pull away from Spencer and look for the sound of the noise but cannot see it. It must be someone who doesn't know yet for whoever it is sounds like they are taking their time. I break the embrace and motion with my head towards the noise. Spencer reluctantly agrees.
We run through the halls trying to locate the noise, but the halls echo all around us. That dilemma makes it hard to find exactly where the footsteps are. We run up and down each hallway becoming more and more discouraged each time we find another empty corridor. I finally sit down giving up.
Spencer sits down next to me and puts his arm around me. I shrug it off. He doesn't resist at all. He knows I'm not in the mood at all. Where could this person be? Why can't we find them? It doesn't make sense.... It sounds so close like it's right around the corner! Wait a minute.....
I stand up again and start to walk down the full length of the hallway. My heart beats against my chest like a drum. I don't know why though..... I don't know why I care to find this person so badly, and I don't know why I'm so worried. I just have this feeling.
I get to the corner and stop before turning. I take a deep breath and look behind me. Spencer is just a few paces behind. If I turn without him, he will be right behind me. I take one more deep breath and step around the corner.
The person is there. He, for the person is a guy, is pacing back and forth, apparently. His back is to me at the moment so I can only see his backside. He reaches the end of the corner and turns to start walking back. I gasp and he looks up. His eyes widen as his mouth drops open. I look into those wonderful eyes I love so much.
It's James.
