43 | WHERE EVIL COMES

ONE thing ruling brings a person is hard times. If you're a king or a queen, it is expected for you to have everything settled, and if by chance a battle comes along, to be prepared. Cassia knew this her whole life.

Her dad prepared her ever since she was a youth. He told her the stories he heard as a child from the first line of kings and queens to when he became king. And something that he was always prepared for.

Evil will come around when you least expect it.

The stories of the White Witch were something that always remained to her. How she took advantage of a poor little boy and used it to her misery to become queen. Poor taste.

Or how her father, King Edmund, and Queen Lucy fought a dark mist under the influence of dark thoughts. It was all pure evil. Evil that lurks beneath you, and disguises as something nice. It takes advantage of when you're miserable.

Cassia's hands remained open over her wooden desk, her power flowing softly into the air. Her eyes were closed but even so, she could see — feel, the wind creating ahead of her.

It was this small thing that started as a sensation, but now she felt the need to release it. A fiery sensation from a cold gift was growing and she couldn't stop it. There was just no answer. Her hair was starting to float, and the blue around her continued to glow.

She felt everything at once, and evil was lurking around.

The door of the dorm opened just to reveal Jane and the sudden noise of this made Cassia snap from her trance quick enough before Jane saw what was going on.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." The raven girl softly closed the door after her sudden entry.

"It's okay." The brunette dismissed her, not being scared by the entering outburst but by the fear of being spotted.

"Are you okay?" Jane walked closer to her, "You look paler than usual." Her attempt to touch her face was stopped by the girl.

"Yeah! I'm okay. Just a little... cold." Cassia realized how dumb that sounded coming from her. "I'm gonna go."

And before the daughter of Fairy Godmother could say anymore Cassia disappeared from the room. Her head turned behind her to see if she had followed, but lucky for her Jane decided to stay in the room. Thinking that the brunette had appeared a little weird.

Cassia took in a breath and sighed while giving her body a shake from the previous feeling. It felt as if her body was awakening from a deep sleep, and she didn't know why.

Upon turning the corner of the lobby she felt a strong force near her, making her frown and clench her body. Her eyes glowed their hue of blue and she felt panic rise in her.

"Okay, what the hell is going on?" She whispered to herself softly.

Not trusting her hands she rested them on the insides of her pockets, she didn't want to blast anyone so it was better to play it safe. After exiting the lobby, she felt the tension of her powers release, meaning her eyes had shut down.

"Well, that was weird." She told herself bringing out her hands.

Cassia thought maybe what she needed was fresh air, given the fact that she had spent the entire day inside her room showed she lacked fresh oxygen. And so she sat on the wooden bench, sighing and placing her hands on the surface table.

Her head rolled back, feeling the bones crack releasing the tension. But when she brought her head back up, her attention shifted toward the trees, feeling a wave of fear rushing through her body. Her eyebrows furrowed quickly.

Her legs were quick to react on standing up when she spotted a silhouette of a person in a cloak far away in the trees. And that's when she felt that negative energy once more. From the person that she was looking straight ahead.

However, that energy began to morph into a fresh, so clean energy. Her eyebrows continued to furrow at the sudden change. But her attention shifted over toward another direction, seeing something that wasn't in the form of a human — but an animal.

A lion.

Or so she thought she saw. Because with just a shake of the head, her vision became clear and everything became normal. Cassia shook her hands and she nodded knowing that it was best if she were to go back inside the lobby. It was tensed out here or someone was playing mind games.

She took a turn, and with her head down she wasn't watching where she was going. Which was why she bumped into a tall figure, and her head coming up revealed that it was the boy.

"Cassie, yeh have to watch where ye're going." The hands of Harry rested strong on the shoulders of the shaken girl.

"I'm sorry, Harry. I'm just distracted." She felt his hands leave her arms.

"Anything yeh wanna talk about?" Harry suggested, and he wasn't sure if he would know what to say, but he felt the need to offer.

But lucky for him, the girl denied it. "No it's okay, I'm better now." She nodded softly gifting him a smile. "Where were you going?"

"Oh, nowhere I was jus' coming back from...hanging out with Elliot." He looked for a distraction that he hoped worked for the girl not to know he was working on the date.

"Oh, that's cool. I'm happy you guys are finally getting along." The girl began to walk causing Harry to follow up behind her. "I don't know what I would do if you guys didn't like each other."

"Who said I liked him?" Cassia smiled at the teasing words of the pirate. "Kidding."

"I know you are." She rolled her eyes still smiling. "I know you guys are like best friends now."

Harry tilted his head toward the side, half of his face scrunching up at the comment. "Eh, if you wanna put it like that." He was playing hard.

"Mhm, for sure." Cassia nodded. "Well just know he's actually happy to have you as a friend. He got stuck with me so I guess having you must be like an upgrade."

"I would love to be stuck with yeh." Harry shrugged. A small smirk grew on his lips, and watching how it mirrored over toward Cassia.

The buzzing of his phone interrupted the two of them, Harry brought his phone over to see that it was a text from Elliot. And it was him telling him that his mom had delivered the lights.

"Well, I have to go. Uma needs me." He typed a quick response and placed his phone back in his pocket, setting back his attention to the girl.

"Okay." She nodded softly.

"I'll see you later." And before he left, Harry had made sure to place a tender kiss on the brunette's cheek.

He left her with the lingering sensation of his lips on the soft skin of her cheek. Her hand placed over the area where his lips were once. It only made the girl smile softly.
