"gloves up" : to "have your gloves up," or to "put on the gloves," is an informal american english expression originally used in boxing that means to "get ready" or to "be prepared for what's coming."

⋅ POV⋅
⋅⊰ BANGCHAN⊱⋅As the evening carried on, I found myself becoming drastically less jealous of Hyunjin or the others and perhaps even a bit smug, when we had all gravitated toward the laser tag arena; there, we had all divided into individuals competing against one another, and Hyunjin was the first target that Mei had locked in and shot square in the chest.
It was a few hours into our evening at the arcade that we were stripping of our laser tag attire and exiting the arena, Hyunjin still lingering in his tantrum due to 'this complete and utter betrayal.' Mei didn't win overall– Minho did– but she was clearly enjoying the victory she at least held over Hyunjin, who seemed genuinely altered in a negative way by the interaction of which I hadn't witnessed. I was finding it rather entertaining as the employee by the arena's entrance paid Minho in the proper amount of tickets for his ultimate victory in the game.
"Alright, you remember the deal. First one to get shot buys the winner a pretzel," Minho reminded Hyunjin smugly, causing the younger to sigh a bit exaggeratedly as they split off from the group toward the food court.
Truthfully, I grew a bit giddy like a child as I noticed the two closest members to Mei aside from myself were now busied with something else at the moment. My eyes flickered from Mei, who was laughing at the two boys who playfully bickered on their way to the pretzel stand, to the remaining members. My eyes naturally moved to Felix's, and it was almost as though he could predict my thoughts before I even realized them myself.
"Okay, maybe I couldn't defeat you guys in laser tag, but I know I'd destroy the four of you in Dance Dance Revolution," he declared in a steady and confident voice as he redirected his attention to Changbin, Han, Seungmin and Jeongin. "Have you ever heard of a little something called 'Danceracha'?"
Han let out a high-pitched and loud noise of utter shock and disbelief, and this caused Jeongin to wield back a giddy and amused grin at the boy's competitive expression. "Are you kidding me? Have you ever heard of a little something called 'All-Rounder'?" Jisung retorted with wide eyes.
