Q: tips for writing fanfics? and how do you get your ideas?

A: so i already kind of answered a similar question in part 1 of my q&a's but i'll kind of go over a little bit of what i said 😊
most of my ideas come from music or inspiration from movies and other books, but obviously nothing copied! also i have ADHD so a lot of my ideas can't really be explained because it's a chaotic thought that just pops into my brain a bit randomly. also i have trouble sleeping so i pan out fictional scenarios in my brain based on whatever comes to me in that moment and if i like it enough or if it hasn't been written before, i'll turn it into something written!

my tips for writing :

「 1 」 always take notes (and organize them)

i have notes for LoveSTAY that are organized by the novel's timeframe. a lot of these notes are based on many things that haven't happened yet that u guys don't know 🫣
and all of the major events that have happened in LoveSTAY have had a written plan in my notes before being published!

never let a fleeting idea escape you, even if it seems small or uneventful!
write it down and go back to it every now and then to potentially transform it into something bigger and better.

「 2 」don't be afraid to be different and spontaneous!

i can't tell you how many times i've been writing LoveSTAY or another novel of mine where i had a general plan, but random ideas suddenly popped into my brain, so i wrote them down even if i was worried it was weird or random, and they always ended up being loved by readers!

thank you for always supporting me and my adhd weirdness!

「 3 」don't force yourself to write when you have writer's block

if you're having writer's block, there is a reason. physiologically speaking, the causes of writer's block include stress, anxiety, pressure, lack of inspiration, exhaustion, etc.
cognitively speaking, writer's block can be caused by under-planning or over-planning, putting too much pressure on yourself (perfectionism).

so relating to these causes, here are my suggestions:

「 1 」hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!!!
(and i recommend really cold water cuz that will help wake your brain up and sharpen your focus)

「 2 」eat something
(foods that have been scientifically proven to help with focus and inspiration include fish, coffee, nuts, leafy greens, eggs, whole grains, dark chocolate, pumpkin seeds) ((if u have ADHD like me, though, avoid caffeine. this has a reverse effect on ADHDers and will make you extremely tired and groggy. foods that provide natural, caffeine-free energy are apples, peaches, avocados, lemons, raspberries, steawberries, blueberries, and sunflower seeds))

「 3 」 do breathing exercises
(do it outside for fresh air and oxygen flow to the brain. oxygen flow to the brain before writing is like stretching before exercising)

「 4 」 get into aromatherapy
(i have an essential oil diffuser and i put 2 drops of eucalyptus, 1 drop of bergamot, 3 drops of peppermint, 1 drop of cypress, 3 drops of rosemary, 1 drop of lemon, 1 drop of frankincense in the water and have it nearby while i write. these scents promote focus and inspiration)

「 5 」invest in a prompt book
(most book stores online and some in person typically have prompt books. it's just a few hundred pages of random prompts and scenarios that are given to you. if you can write in that for a bit, you will definitely be given some good ideas when you're stumped)
