The repetitive banging on my apartment's front door let me know exactly who was standing on my front porch, and I laughed with a spring in my step as I rushed down the hall from my bedroom to open it. There stood Koji with an evil grin on his lips and an armful of newly purchased toys, and had I known he'd be so ready to spoil my new pet, I wouldn't have bought any toys to begin with.

"Show me the child," were the first words out of the young man's mouth and I raised my brows at how alarming that would sound out of context.

"Okay, you don't have to be a total creep about it," I responded playfully as I let my best friend inside and guided him back to my room. "By the way, I only have maybe an hour before I'm leaving to meet Hannah, so–"

"Ugh, I can't believe you're so openly flaunting it in my face that you are suddenly besties with the woman of my dreams," Koji interrupted dramatically with a sigh as he entered my room and immediately dumped out the bag of toys on my floor as if it were his room. "Unless you are planning to bring me with you, I am opposed."

Laughter bubbled up from my chest at the obviously unserious statements that the boy made as I briefly searched the room for the bunny. Before long, Bibi came into sight, curiously poking his head out from under my bed when he seemed to notice the new unfamiliar voice of Koji. I giggled at how adorable he looked and I pulled my phone from my pocket to take a picture quickly before he could move.

Koji gasped in an extremely unflattering and over-the-top manner once he had set his sights on Bibi for the first time, bringing the palms of his hands to his cheeks as his eyes widened. I placed a hand over my mouth in an attempt to shield my laughter as I watched Koji carefully select one of the toys he'd brought and try to capture Bibi's attention with it. To my surprise, his efforts were successful, drawing the bunny closer to him in order to give the pile of new toys inspective sniffs. I then switched my phone to video mode and began taking little snippets of Koji and Bibi meeting for the first time.

"You are the most worthy creature of the name Leebit, you absolute angel," Koji cooed in a cringey baby voice, which truly tested how well I could hold in my unflattering versions of laughter as I watched. "I'm your Uncle Koji!" The young man added enthusiastically, to which Bibi's floppy ears twitched as he looked up at Koji with his sparkling oil-spot eyes flooded with curiosity and caution.

Once I'd finished taking my desired amount of videos, I posted a few to my Snapchat story before setting my phone to the side and giving my full attention to Koji and Bibi. My eyes went wide at the sight of Bibi's close proximity to Koji as he began nibbling on the toy Koji held and my heart melted at the sight.

Koji's head twisted around so he could send me an ecstatic facial expression and whisper-shout, "I think he likes me!"

Stifling my giggles, I nodded in agreement as I carefully reached forward and gently patted Bibi on the head between his ears. I noticed over the past several hours of playing with him and getting to know his personality today that that seemed to be his favorite spot to be petted. I smiled happily as his eyes briefly shut in content while my fingertips softly scratched his forehead.

"So your dad is totally cool with you spontaneously buying a bunny?" Koji commented as we began entertaining the creature with the new toys surrounding him.

My heart fell a little at the mention of the man I hadn't seen or heard from in a few days, but I had become good at wasting no time to mask that negative emotion with a smile.
