"Okay... Here! It was in this shop," I expressed with elation as I guided Hannah behind me, who was eager to see what type of gift this was that I had decided on for Chan.
Mine and Chan's date had ended a few hours ago, him dropping me off back at his sister's apartment, though it took several minutes for us to fully bid goodbye to one another. The prolonged farewells had ultimately come to an end when Hannah emerged from her bedroom and made gagging noises in response to our behavior. This had caused him to roll his eyes in a very big-brotherly manner before kissing my head and finally parting from me while I laughed.
Not long after that, I had filled Hannah in on how our date went, especially the part about finding that journal I wanted to get for Chan. As soon as we knew it had been plenty of time for him to have left and made it home, she giddily accompanied me back to the market where I'd spotted the pretty handmade item.
"Y'know, Chan usually just writes lyrics on his laptop or in his notes app in his phone-"
Playfully rolling my eyes, I dragged her inside the shop with me, momentarily becoming hesitant in the choice I'd made. "Yeah, yeah, it's not the greatest gift idea for him-"
Hannah laughed at my response before cutting me off. "No, that's what I'm saying, is that he will love this, not just because he needs something more organized to write in, but because it's from you. He'll love it, Mei," she explained, causing me to pause in my search of the familiar shop worker and gaze back at my friend. "You could get him a bag of loose pebbles and he'd proudly display it in a glass case by the front door with a plaque that reads 'The best gift ever. From, my girlfriend.'"
Laughter bubbled out of me as I pictured the ridiculous scene and I playfully whacked Hannah on the arm while she joined in before we were approached by a third person. I raised my head to meet eyes with the familiar woman from earlier that day and she had a warm grin on her face, the journal in her hands.
"Ah, you're back. I kept it safe," she assured me, causing me to laugh happily and give her a slight bow as I retrieved the book from her grasp.
"Thank you so much," I expressed to her as she nodded her head with equal vigor before gesturing for me to follow her toward the back counter.
