I knew I had no real reason to be jealous. I didn't even want to hold his hand on the plane for longer than absolutely necessary. But something about watching him go into a hotel with someone else made me feel sick.
It made me feel worse that it wasn't so late he couldn't stop by and say goodnight liked he'd promised to if he had the time, but he'd decided this other person mattered more. I sulked back to my bed feeling just as unimportant as I had my whole life...but it hurt more with Yunho.
He'd pretended to care.
I took a deep and shaky breath before whispering to myself, "It's just a job."
He saw me as nothing more than an employee...a girl he'd saved from her family to benefit his own ego. And I could live with that. I was grateful for it.
I closed my eyes and fell asleep, trying to drown out the sound of grunts across the hall. I hadn't pegged Yunho as being one for a quick fuck, but I guess I didn't know him all that well.
-------------------------
The next morning I woke up super early, deciding to put on a brave face about Yunho not seeing me as a friend. My first task was to wake up Mingi, and as I stumbled into the hall, I saw Hongjoong already preparing to open a door.
"Is that Mingi's?" I asked.
"Yep!" Hongjoong confirmed. "I'll show you how it's done," he smirked as he threw open the door and burst into Mingi's room. "Mingi! Mingi!" he shouted. "Wake up!" He blared a song from his phone and ducked when Mingi threw a pillow at him.
"Shut the fuck up!" Mingi shouted, just as angry as they'd said he'd be.
Hongjoong laughed and headed towards the bed to pull off his comforter which only made Mingi angrier.
"Pocket sized asshole," Mingi grunted. He kicked him away and got out of bed only to retrieve his sweatpants because he was cold now.
He hadn't even realized I was there until he was right beside me. I swallowed and tried to ignore the fact he was just in his boxers, glancing away to offer a shred of dignity back to him while he dressed.
"I'm Mingi," he introduced.
"Charlie," I smiled awkwardly.
"Charlie," Mingi nodded. "Please get him out of here."
Hongjoong just laughed, and I followed him out of the room where I saw Yunho carrying two coffees into the hotel room. I waved, trying to be polite, but he just rushed inside, ignoring me.
I frowned but Hongjoong tried to explain, "He had fan service."
"I don't care. He can do what he wants," I told him before going into my room again. Why did everyone think I cared so much about what he was up to? I barely knew the guy.
I changed for the drive today, throwing on a pair of leggings, boots, and a hoodie since I knew we'd be on a bus. I then realized there was no way I could carry this bag all the way downstairs so...despite hating having to ask for help...I knocked on Dmitri's door.
With a smile he agreed and even invited me downstairs to have breakfast with him before leaving. Amusingly, Mr. Brownstone was downstairs enjoying the buffet. Dmitri guided me to a table and before my ass even hit the seat, fresh, warm food was brought out to us.
Mr. Brownstone glared as we happily ate our eggs and bacon.
"How did you get used to it?" I asked him, unsure how to fit in this world. Mr. Brownstone, while an entitled asshat, hadn't been wrong. I didn't belong here.
Dmitri shrugged. "I just thought of all the people who have a lot of money and things that are horrible people. I told myself as long as I don't end up like them, I already deserve it more."
I laughed, but felt comforted by his words. "I think that's the word that gets me. 'Deserve'..." I confessed. "What does anyone deserve, really?"
With warm eyes, Dmitri replied, "I don't know what everyone deserves. But you didn't deserve parents who treated you like that, Charlie. Think of this as the universe repaying you."
"Okay..." I nodded, feeling a bit teary eyed. "I will."
We ate in silence for a moment before the elevator dinged and Yunho walked out with the same woman. My hands went into fists around my fork as he put his arm around her, and my glared followed his every step as he walked her outside with his boyish smile.
"It's just his fan service," Dmitri whispered, trying to calm me down.
"I don't care," I grumped with a mouthful of food. "He's just my boss."
Dmitri chuckled to himself earning a frown from me.
"What?" I huffed.
"Nothing," he shook his head with an amused tug of his lips. "Just seems like you care."
"Well I don't," I spat. "And I'm really sick of everyone thinking I do. I barely know him."
"It's not a weakness to care about people, Charlie," Dmitri explained gently.
"I know that. But I don't care about Yunho and his stupid date," I stood and rushed to go back to my room, leaving behind my bag in favor of a quiet place to be away from everyone's assumptions.
But of course, just as I pressed the elevator button, there was Yunho, waiting to go back up. I ignored him, turning to face the doors and saying nothing when we began heading to the top floor.
Yunho, who hadn't realized my sudden aversion to his presence spoke first. "Did you have a good night?" he smiled, his face just as sweet as ever.
I found myself blushing and struggling for a moment to speak. "Yep," I answered as the doors opened. "And based on the woman I saw, I'd guess your night was even better," I snapped before slamming my hotel door shut.
From the safety of my room I wondered why I had just said that because now, he'd know I'd been a little jealous.
