The parking lot was empty. Minji had decided to go out last even though they had finished dinner first, but seeing Sullyoon's frown made her frustrated.
It had all been Haerin's damn mouth's fault, if she hadn't mentioned that flower Sullyoon would never have known the name Hanni.
But now she had to take responsibility for once.
Sullyoon looked furious leaning melancholically on the door of Minji's car.
She had her purse in her hand and no longer on her shoulders, she sighed every now and then and looked at the tessellated trees here and there along the parking lot.
By this time people had already left and the rustling of the trees was sometimes muffled by the cars passing by.
It seemed that the heat was fading and the bodies of the two women were floating in a cold shape that no one could break, the atmosphere was tangible but it was never too strong to be extinguished.
Minji seemed lost among the few remaining cars, she wanted to escape and say that it wasn't her fault if her heart was destined for someone else.
Minji took her keys and opened the car with a click, and from there Sullyoon started.
"Would you kindly explain to me who the hell this Hanni is?" she said, looking decidedly angry.
Minji sighed in turn and did nothing but close her eyes and swing her body boringly like a child being scolded by her mother.
She hated it when Sullyoon treated her like that. It made her feel weird almost like she had no respect, and especially the way she did it was strangely obsessive as if the way she acted had to please others too.
Minji mostly stayed quiet so as not to start a war and honestly Sullyoon's dark looks made her fear that they might lash out at her through her father's words. Sullyoon had always had the upper hand in her family too.
"Sullyoon, you knew from the start that it would never work between us. It was all Haerin and my father's doing..."
"So you mean you would never have me engaged! You've been pushing me around. I've been circling you for years, and now because of this stupid little girl you decide to throw me out?" Sullyoon interrupted aggressively.
The plan he had devised had completely gone up in smoke.
Minji didn't want to clash with her, even though she didn't love her she felt affection for the woman especially because she had spent a long time suffering for her career to reach such immense heights to, let's say, prove that they were on the same pedestal. Sullyoon had really worked hard to get her position and declared herself as a perfect girlfriend for Minji, but now the woman was put on the back burner.
Minji thought and knew completely that Sullyoon knew about her feelings for her, but she didn't want to break his heart again and fool her into making bad decisions like she had done before.
"Sullyoon, that woman is the one I love and have always loved. I know how much effort you've put in but I can't help but choose what my heart desires" Minji said rationally but the tone and the way Sullyoon's eyes formed against Minji were furious.
Sullyoon took her purse and hit Minji, "Sometimes I don't know if your head actually has any brains! Do you realize the bullshit you're talking? I rejected millions of people to have a stupid woman like you reject me for a little girl from a flower shop?" Sullyoon couldn't see the light of reason anymore, it was definitely his anger talking.
"Sullyoon try to be more realistic... I have always rejected you, you are the one who has stubbornly tried to attract me to you" Minji said not reacting to a single word of the woman.
Minji wanted to hope that those sentences were the result of a nervous or angry attack, and that she did not really think those things about her and Hanni.
The bag hit Minji on the arm again a little harder than before but the woman did not move an inch.
It was both of their faults there was nothing that helped the two to be right in that argument or even to stop them.
Sullyoon was in trouble, she didn't know whether to get even more angry, whether to cry, whether to scream, whether to say something else or whether to walk away after a slap. Her feelings were definitely a flood of emotions, she didn't understand if this need to vent was due to a sense of pride or feelings.
"Damn who the hell is this Hanni!? At least have the fucking courage to tell me" Sullyoon said without arguing, looking defiantly at Minji who seemed decidedly indifferent to her actions. "She's a woman I've loved since I was a teenager, and I became who I am because of her, and now that I've found her I won't let this opportunity slip away" Minji spoke sincerely but Sullyoon's mouth turned down in slight disgust at what she had said.
She certainly couldn't imagine that Minji had fallen so madly in love with this woman.
Sullyoon stared into space for a while as if she was playing new cards in her head. She approached Minji and placed her hands on her chest, whispering softly "Minji, it's your mind that makes you think so, but love doesn't last that long".
Sullyoon looked at Minji's neck, it was beautifully slender and clean, smelling and surrounded by a wonderful essence. Her chin stopped near her chest but her nose stretched up to inhale that sweet scent.
"Be honest Minji, how long have you insisted on thinking of that woman as your only love?" her hands wrapped around Minji's neck making their closeness even closer.
"To find the love of your life, you have to try a few first" she continued running her fingers through the woman's hair. There was a subtle push from Sullyoon's hands but Minji immediately moved away.
"What the hell are you doing, Sullyoon?" she said strangely irritated. Minji was fed up with this, she had tried to be rational but the woman was putting her in a bad situation.
Her lips tightened and Sullyoon rejected such words with a sharp look "I'll take you home" she tried to stop things with a simple offer but Sullyoon wouldn't forget her actions.
"What's wrong with me?! Tell me Minji, damn it! I've always agreed to everything you said, but I won't accept rejection" Sullyoon shouted on the verge of a crisis. Minji sighed again "Tell me! Don't waste time" she said looking with contempt at Minji's indifference in wanting to give her an answer.
"Damn, Minji answer! At least give me an explanation!"
"I don't know" Minji said putting her hands in her pockets afraid they would freeze from the cold, "I don't know, maybe it's because I don't love you..." Minji replied looking up at Sullyoon a little scared of her next move.
"Beauty may be objective, but the soul is something subjective" Minji continued. Sullyoon was shocked, she felt her heart falling to pieces and all her work and covers us in her arms. "Love is not the body and it is not even the career, it is the soul" she said without scruples. "And I love Hanni's soul" Minji finished opening the car and getting in.
Even though Hanni had become an adult, Minji was in danger of feeling the same girl she had loved when she was a teenager and still loves today.
Sullyoon would never understand this strong feeling of belonging as if the world were not under your feet and you could only feel the air for breath when you have that woman near you.
For Minji, Hanni is everything. She has always been in her memories, in her mind and in her dreams.
She has always thought of her no matter what she did.
Even though Sullyoon had been with her for all these years, she would never have filled half of her heart at a speed that only Hanni could do even with a simple look, even an angry one. Minji would have accepted everything from her, she would have felt her heart racing anyway.
She waited for Sullyoon to calm down and invited her inside again, this time she was silent and went in.
She accompanied her to her house and from there Sullyoon had no more to do with Minji, or at least that was what she thought.
