It was Friday night.
Danielle was on the couch with her hands stretched out over the armrest waiting for the nail polish to dry.
The ten o'clock newspaper was on the television, Hanni was listening to it but without interest. Maybe she was just tired of being with the phone in her hand.
Mrs. Pham had already gone to sleep, closed the windows and put heaters in her and Danielle's room since Hanni had refused to have one as she didn't need one.
The news was on towards an issue for a politican parties, it was political news. Danielle snorted trying to change the channel but Hanni still had the remote control and she was up getting some late night snacks.
"How boring," Danielle said, throwing her head back without moving her hands even an inch. Hanni glared at her as if she had just insulted her.
"Do you have anything to do tomorrow?" Hanni asked, trying to move Danielle's spirits. Just a few minutes ago, Danielle was in heaven because tomorrow she could do whatever she wanted.
"I don't think so but I wanted to go shopping. It's been a long time since I bought something and that jacket needs to be thrown away" Danielle said, gesturing to the jacket hanging on the wall.
The jacket was beautiful, the fact was that it was no longer in fashion. Hanni looked at her a little surprised by her friend's comment, certainly in a couple of months that black jacket would be back in fashion.
Another piece of news came on the television, this time it was an interview.
Danielle first became interested in watching as she noticed a familiar face on the screen.
"Hanni come here and watch" Danielle commented raising her arms to get her attention.
Hanni arrived seconds later with two cookies in the palm of her hand. She was perplexed to see that a woman like Kim Minji was on television.
She was in there sitting on a revolving chair in her study adorned with books on the shelf attached to the wall, there was a vase of tulips to the right along with a photo that looked strangely familiar.
Her elegant suit showed no sign of fragility accentuating her charismatic spirit as she spoke of her oil expansion.
"Hanni, isn't that you?" Danielle asked, pointing with her finger at the television. Hanni approached the screen and almost wanted to scream in fear at what she had seen.
Her baby face was there above the desk of that woman who spoke with an almost frightening calm.
The photo must have been when she was still a child, perhaps when she was a few years old.
She held a toy in her hand and hugged it to her chest, she remembered that photo from when her father asked her to go to sleep and she said no, she liked that photo so much that she put it on her profile for a couple of period on social media, she had also shown it to Minji a few times but she didn't expect that the woman would have fiercely guarded the photo.
It scared her.
She looked at the screen in amazement, wanting to say something but in the end the woman couldn't even hear her.
"Okay, thank you for spending your precious time for us," the journalist said with a smile.
It was a man in his fifties with a gentle smile and flailing legs that wouldn't stop thumping rhythmically against the floor.
“It was a pleasure,” the woman said as she smiled back at him.
She had to be honest, Minji was a beautiful woman who could captivate anyone with a smile.
