Hanni probably didn't expect her night walk to turn into some kind of strange episode.Hanni had just finished taking out the garbage and decided to exchange ideas by walking a bit under the bright raspberries, but as she walked back towards her house she caught sight of a figure.
She was tall but bent over with an excruciating need to collapse on the ground.
She was wearing a black suit and was making strange noises almost as if she were suffocating.
Hanni couldn't believe that the figure belonged to Minji. She had a confused look on her face and every now and then she threatened to kick the flowerbeds.
Her hands were touching the low wall of her grandmother's house, and her feet were fixed on the cobblestones of the driveway.
Her heart sank as she saw Minji sobbing.
Although the woman had always behaved so boldly towards her, seeing her like this now made her feel sick.
"HanHan" she said, banging her hands against the low wall of her grandmother's house.
Hanni, confused, approached hoping that she wouldn't break any bones.
Hearing her old name from when they were teenagers, had triggered some kind of memory.
Hanni approached and looked at her for a while while she put her hands on her shoulders trying to make her reason. She wondered if something had happened but Minji seemed too strange to ask her anything, she would surely mumble something incomprehensible and she didn't want to waste her time like that.
Hanni had never seen a Minji like that.
When they were teenagers, Minji was the only person she could confide in and say even the stupidest things that came to mind. She always waited for Minji to give her comfort and a sweet hug telling her that everything was okay.
During those times, Minji had been her lifeline: her father was almost never home and her mother didn't really care about her since she was so busy with the house and the expenses to pay for her father, who was also Hanni's grandfather, to stay, but she couldn't handle it.
There was a strangely tragic crisis in one of those summers, and it was the summer before last that Hanni saw Minji again.
The last summer had been something unforgettable, and the friends had brought a little piece of their heart around the fire on the beach, but Minji had always had a bigger piece than necessary.
She cared a lot about Minji and always had, but she still didn't trust herself to distinguish her feelings and she certainly didn't want to use deceptive love for her money.
Hanni kept her distance from Minji but managed to say something for her own good, because seeing her like this made her suffer, "Minji, what happened to you?" she asked in a sweet tone.
Minji turned to her side.
Her eyes met hers sadly.
Her cheeks were wet and her lips were trembling.
Was she crying?
"Hanni, I'm sorry," she said, collapsing against the door with difficulty. She was sobbing like a child, and honestly Hanni was shocked.
She leaned towards her, stroking her hair gently, as if the situation of the days before didn't matter and that in reality Minji was just a good friend and not someone who claimed her love for her.
"I just wanted to do what I wanted, but... My parents had everything planned from the beginning," she said without interruption.
"I went to them but they closed the door in my face, but I chose love," Minji said without embarrassment. Hanni didn't understand what she was talking about.
