and that's what's we did.
out by dawn with terrances body and co
me, pope, john b, sarah and cleo were all on the boat with terrances body.
we head out near the marsh and we get ready to dump him
"i know you guys didn't know terrance that well, but... he took care of me when no one else did. he was like a father to me. and um... and i loved him. and ill miss him. neither will i forget who did this. i got you, boss." cleo states
we then gently lower his body into the sea
we all sigh and then make our way back to poguelandia
we got back and it was quiet. i haven't spoke to jj since our little.. thing.. last night.
we got back and he wasn't here. gone.
there was a note on the car and john b scoffs then gives it to me to read
"she's topped off had, had to run an errand, go on to chucktown without me, catch up with you later, jj." i groan as i read
"since when does he run errands?" sarah asks
"since never." i pull out my phone and i try calling him
no answer.
"anything?" john b asks
"nothing." i sigh
"hey, vienna. this not your fault, girl." cleo tells me
"mhm." i mutter
"yall go ahead. i'll stay here and wait for him. and if we can.. we will catch up." i sigh
"all right. be safe." john b tells me
"yeah, call us!" sarah shouts before they all get in the twinkie
i nod and i head into the shop
—
i call and call and call... and call. and text and text and text and call jj over and over again.
nothing.
this was my fault.
"jj, where r u??"
"jayj"
"baby please answer"
"jj"
"im sorry for what i said, i didn't mean it"
"i just snapped and i was overwhelmed"
"can u call?? i'll pick u up"
i kept texting him and texting him
"dude where are you?"
i hear the bells of the door ring, meaning a customer.
"hey can i help you?" i ask
"i don't know, can you?"
my head snaps up when i hear that voice
rafe.
"hey, vie." he smiles
"what are you doing here?" i ask
"uh, yeah. do you- what, you don't think i'm just a customer coming to shop at my local surf and bait store?" he scoffs as he picks up and fiddles with things.
i was around the back of the counter away from him
"no?" he nods "i just wanna see my sister."
"she doesn't wanna see you, rafe." i shoot back
"well shes my sister, okay? i can come have a little chat with her if i want." he scoffs and looks away
i immediately grab a switch blade we had hidden under the shelf but i hid it so he couldn't see
"oh, it was a really.. really nice performance yesterday at the break. you gave it up for those turtles. it was super fun to watch. it was awesome." he paces through the tiny store
"you know this place is on the chopping block, right?" he chuckles
"you don't say. let me guess. you're behind that or something?" i ask
"uh.. i- i could be.. but no. no, not this time." he smiles
he walks over to the counter and my grip tightens on the knife
"well i wanted to give you a heads up actually. you know, do you a solid, and i wanna.. i wanna be better." he nods with a tough expression. "but i already- i've got you snapping at me." he snaps in my face "as im trying to help, as usual. and you guys.. always wonder why you end up at the bottom. hm? it's sad." he sighs
he looks at me, he was tensed, angry even. but his eyes said something else.
as did mine.
hatred? trust? none? or maybe both?
"you really did me wrong, vienna."
"did i?"
he smiles, not that sarcastic smile but an.. an honest smile?
"but i forgive you. we're good. i'm not your enemy." he nods
"you know that." he whispers
the eye contact was too intense i had to pull off
he nods
"till next time." he scoffs before heading out
i sigh of relief as he left.
