Y/N's POV
The morning sun filtered into the dungeon classroom, casting an odd warmth over the cold stone walls. I shifted in my seat, glancing over at Draco, who was seated two rows behind me, his gaze flickering toward me every now and then. Our secret kiss the night before lingered in my mind, and even though I knew Snape had seen us, the memory brought a smile to my lips.
After the last potion bottle had been corked and the class had filed out, Snape's voice cut through the silence, his tone sharp yet strangely unreadable. "Miss Potter, a word. And Mr. Malfoy—since you're already here, you might as well join us."
Draco and I exchanged a quick glance, my heart racing as I moved to the front of the classroom. Draco stepped up beside me, his face impassive but his hand brushing against mine for just a second before we both faced Snape.
Snape studied us for a long, tense moment, his dark gaze unreadable. "Last night," he began, his voice as icy as ever, "I came upon a scene that... well, let's just say, was surprising." He paused, his lips pressing together into a thin line. "I don't need to remind you that fraternizing as you two were doing—especially considering the circumstances—is reckless. And it is not to happen again."
My heart sank, his words feeling as if they'd stamped out the light we'd managed to steal for ourselves. Draco and I exchanged a glance, neither of us daring to speak. Snape's gaze softened, ever so slightly, as he looked from me to Draco, and for a fleeting moment, I thought I saw something in his eyes—a hint of understanding. But just as quickly as it appeared, it vanished, replaced by his usual stoic expression.
Without another word, he turned and left, leaving Draco and me alone in the empty classroom.
As soon as Snape disappeared around the corner, Draco's hand found mine, his fingers warm and comforting against my own. "Want to go for a walk?" he asked softly, a small smile playing at his lips.
I nodded, and together, we slipped out of the dungeons and up into the sunlight, hand in hand. The grounds were quiet, and as we strolled by the lake, I felt my worries melting away with each step. Just being with him, feeling the warmth of his hand in mine, made the rest of the world fade into the background.
We walked in comfortable silence for a while, until the sound of familiar voices drifted toward us. My heart skipped a beat—I could recognize that trio of voices anywhere. Harry, Hermione, and Ron. I quickly dropped Draco's hand, but not before leaning up and planting a quick kiss on his cheek, leaving him momentarily stunned.
He stared at me, a soft blush spreading across his cheeks. "What was that for?" he murmured, looking both surprised and slightly flustered.
I grinned, giving his hand a quick squeeze. "Just because," I whispered, before darting off to meet the trio. A few seconds later, I found them by the lake, acting as if nothing was out of the ordinary. Harry raised an eyebrow at me, and I quickly gave him a playful nudge.
"Where were you, Y/N?" he asked, though his tone was casual, with only a hint of suspicion.
"Oh, just went for a little walk," I replied, keeping my voice light. "Needed a break from the dungeons." I felt a tiny pang of guilt for hiding the truth, but I pushed it aside, reminding myself that some secrets were better left untold.
Draco's POV
I watched Y/N as she hurried away to join her friends, her laughter ringing out across the grounds as she nudged Potter playfully. A soft smile tugged at my lips as I thought back to her kiss, still feeling the warmth lingering on my cheek.
It was nearly the end of the school year, and the thought both thrilled and terrified me. Soon, I'd be away from the secrecy, the sneaking around, and the constant threat of being found out. But the thought of being apart from her, even for a single day, felt like a thousand weights pressing down on my chest.
Once we were back home, things would be different. I'd finally have her to myself—no Potter to play the suspicious brother, no professors lurking in the shadows, no snatched moments hidden away from everyone else. I didn't know exactly how it would work, but I'd find a way to make it happen. For her, for us.
But there was still the shadow of my father and his expectations looming over everything. Last night's confrontation was still fresh in my mind, the memory of his anger, his disappointment. He'd always told me I was meant for something greater, that my path was already set. But for the first time, I didn't want the life he'd planned for me. I wanted something else—something brighter, something that made me feel alive.
I took a deep breath, steeling myself against the nagging worry that crept in whenever I thought about my father. Whatever happened, I knew one thing: I'd fight for her. And as the school year drew to a close, that promise burned brighter than ever.
