Ever since Addi helped Olive to delete that photo, they had gotten unusually close. Naturally, Kendall was jealous. The thing is though, Addi and Olive were only friends. Monday morning Addi asked Olive if she could do her a favor and attend ATO's formal with her boyfriend's friend Gabe. Given the favor Addi did for her, Olive happily agreed.

Kendall had just walked into the KD house, her usual teasing smirk in place, when Olive casually mentioned that she was going to the event. Kendall froze, narrowing her eyes.

"Wait, what? Since when do you go to ATO formals?" Kendall asked, crossing her arms.

Olive shrugged, trying to play it off. "Since Addi's boyfriend's friend needed a date, and she asked if I'd go with him."

Kendall's expression darkened instantly. "Addi asked you?"

"Yeah," Olive replied, her tone defensive. "It's not a big deal."

"Not a big deal?" Kendall echoed, her voice rising slightly. "You're going to some stupid formal because Addi asked you to? Since when do you jump when she says how high?"

"It's not like that," Olive snapped. "She didn't know who else to ask, and she thought I'd be nice about it. Besides, I'm just doing her a favor."

Kendall scoffed, rolling her eyes. "Of course she asked you. Addi has you wrapped around her perfect little finger, doesn't she?"

Olive bristled. "That's not fair. She doesn't even know I'm—" Olive stopped herself short, realizing what she was about to say.

"That you're what?" Kendall pressed, her voice biting.

"That I'm not straight," Olive admitted, her voice dropping. "She has no idea. It's not like she's trying to mess with me."

Kendall's face twisted with disbelief. "But I know. And you're still going. With some random guy. To a formal. That she invited you to."

"It's just one night, Kendall," Olive said, exasperated. "Why are you making this such a big deal?"

Kendall threw up her hands. "Because you're obsessed with her, Olive! Don't act like this is just a favor. You'd do anything for her, wouldn't you?"

"That's not true," Olive shot back, though her cheeks burned with guilt.

"It is," Kendall snapped, stepping closer. "You don't even realize it, but you treat her like she's better than everyone else—including me."

Olive flinched at the accusation, unsure how to respond. The truth was, Addi did make her feel things she didn't want to admit—admiration, jealousy, longing—but she didn't like Addi that way. Did she?

"I'm going because I said I would," Olive finally said, her tone icy. "End of story."

Kendall shook her head, her eyes flashing with hurt. "Fine. Go. Have fun with Addi's perfect ATO friends. But don't expect me to sit around and wait for you to figure out what you want."

Before Olive could respond, Kendall turned on her heel and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her.

The next day, Olive heard through the grapevine that Kendall had accepted an invitation to the ATO formal from Lenny Baker, a socially awkward junior known for his unfortunate laugh and inability to hold a conversation.

"She's only going because she's mad at you," one of Olive's KD sisters whispered during lunch.

Olive groaned, burying her face in her hands. She could already picture Kendall at the event, making snide comments and glaring at her all night.

"Why does she have to be so dramatic?" Olive muttered.

But deep down, she knew why. Kendall was hurt, and Olive hated how much she cared.
