The Snow Day

The first snow of the season always brought a mix of excitement and chaos on campus. The air was crisp, and the soft snowflakes fell in slow spirals, making the campus look like a postcard. Olive wrapped her scarf tighter around her neck as she crossed the quad, the weight of Thanksgiving break and AllSing still heavy on her shoulders. The drama from YikYak had only escalated, and it seemed like everyone was talking about her, whether she liked it or not.

Near the coffee cart by the library, Olive spotted Addi standing by herself, looking effortlessly put together as usual, her bright blue scarf fluttering in the wind. Addi smiled and waved when she saw Olive approaching, her presence warm despite the chilly weather.

"Hey," Olive said, trying to muster a smile as she walked up to Addi.

Addi handed her a cup of hot chocolate. "You look frozen. Thought you might need this."

Olive gratefully accepted the drink, her hands wrapping around the warmth of the mug. "Thanks. How's your week been?"

Addi shrugged, her expression slightly guarded. "Same old. Family stuff, AllSing drama... You know how it is."

Before Olive could respond, Zoe from AXO appeared out of nowhere, balancing two cups of coffee in one hand while adjusting her bag with the other.

"Am I interrupting?" Zoe asked, giving Olive a teasing smile. "I swear, I always find you two in these little snow-covered moments."

Addi gave her a playful roll of her eyes. "We were just talking about Thanksgiving."

"Ugh, don't even get me started on family drama," Zoe said, crossing her arms. "I was more interested in the AllSing fallout. That YikYak thread... brutal. The campus is still buzzing about it."

Olive felt her stomach twist. She didn't need to hear about it. Zoe, sensing the shift in Olive's mood, raised an eyebrow. "Don't worry, it's pretty much old news by now. I just hope nobody's still bringing it up."

Olive let out a deep breath and tried to relax, but the nagging feeling wouldn't leave. Addi checked her phone quickly, her eyes lighting up as she read a message.

"Oh, I need to say hi to Ryan before his class," Addi said, putting her phone away. "Catch you guys later!"

"Wait, Ryan?" Zoe asked, her eyebrows lifting in curiosity. "Who's Ryan?"

Olive knew who Ryan was—Addi's boyfriend from ATO, a guy she'd been with for months now. But she didn't want to get into it.

"It's her boyfriend," Olive said, trying to keep her tone casual. "They've been together a while."

Zoe raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "She never talks about him. She's too perfect, you know? Like, I didn't even know she had a boyfriend."

"Yeah, well, she's good at keeping things low-key," Olive replied, trying not to sound bitter.

Zoe looked at Olive closely, her gaze softening. "I get it. Sometimes I wonder if Addi's life is too perfect. Like, it's a little intimidating, right?"

Before Olive could reply, she saw Kendall walking toward them. Kendall was moving quickly, head down, shoulders hunched against the cold. Olive's chest tightened at the sight of her, but she forced herself to look away.

Zoe muttered under her breath. "There she is. Miss Perfect KD."

Olive didn't say anything. She was too busy trying to avoid Kendall's gaze. But then, Kendall looked up just in time to meet Olive's eyes. For a split second, there was nothing but cold silence between them. Kendall's face was tense, lips pressed into a thin line as she marched past without saying a word.

"Wow. That was... awkward," Zoe remarked, watching Kendall's retreating figure.

Olive didn't respond. She just stood there, the snow falling harder now, blanketing the quad in a silent, peaceful white.

Zoe took a long sip of her coffee before sighing. "She's mad, huh?"

Olive didn't know how to answer. Kendall's anger felt like it was still simmering, even from a distance.

"Well, I'm going to go check on some AXO stuff," Zoe said, her tone light but purposeful. "Catch you later, Olive."

As Zoe turned to walk away, Olive stood still, lost in thought. She didn't notice Liam from KA until he bumped into her, his large frame startling her out of her daze.

"Sorry, didn't see you there," Liam said with a wide grin, his thick Southern accent thick as always.

Olive managed a tight smile. "It's okay."

Liam leaned against a nearby bench, his eyes scanning the campus as if he were waiting for something. "You know, I've seen you around, Olive. Never really had the chance to talk."

Olive was about to reply, but before she could, Zoe reappeared, glancing at Liam with a playful smirk. "There you are, Liam. I was starting to wonder if you were lost in the snow."

Liam laughed, adjusting his jacket. "Nah, just getting some air."

Zoe gave Olive a quick wave. "You're gonna be fine, Olive. Don't let anything get to you."

With that, Zoe disappeared into the crowd, leaving Olive and Liam standing alone.

Olive exhaled slowly, her heart still heavy with the weight of the past few weeks. Snowflakes continued to fall, and the campus seemed to hold its breath, as if waiting for the storm to pass.
