The ballroom was alive with music, laughter, and the glint of champagne glasses under the shimmering chandeliers. Olive stood on the edge of the dance floor, trying to shake off the nerves that had settled in her stomach. Gabe, her date, had been a perfect gentleman all night, but Olive's mind was elsewhere—focused on the people around her, particularly one person.

Addi.

Addi glowed in the soft light of the ballroom, her brown hair cascading in loose waves down her back. Her green eyes sparkled with warmth as she smiled at her boyfriend, Ryan, who looked at her like she was the only person in the room. Their connection was obvious—their chemistry undeniable. Addi was effortlessly beautiful, wearing a pale blue dress that made her look even more radiant. Olive couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy, mixed with something she couldn't quite put her finger on.

"Olive?" Gabe's voice pulled her from her thoughts. "You okay?"

"Yeah, fine," she muttered, shaking her head and trying to focus on the conversation. "Just... a little tired."

Gabe raised an eyebrow but didn't press the issue. They continued to dance, but Olive couldn't shake the image of Addi and Ryan, her mind spinning in circles.

Later in the evening, Olive found herself glancing across the room at Kendall. Kendall was standing with her date, Lenny Baker, who was awkwardly trying to keep up with her sharp remarks and sarcastic humor. Kendall's eyes, though, were locked on Olive. Their gazes met, and a mix of tension and something deeper hung in the air between them.

Kendall raised an eyebrow and motioned toward Olive with a small nod, clearly signaling for her to join her. Olive hesitated but eventually walked over, her heart racing.

"What's the deal with you tonight?" Kendall asked, crossing her arms as Olive approached.

"What do you mean?" Olive replied, trying to sound casual, though the nerves in her stomach were obvious.

Kendall's lips curled into a teasing smile. "You've barely said two words to me tonight. And I see you watching her," she said, nodding toward Addi, who was laughing with Ryan.

Olive stiffened. "I'm just... I'm not in the mood tonight, okay?" she muttered, her voice quieter than she intended.

Kendall narrowed her eyes. "You're avoiding me. And I don't know if I like it."

Olive opened her mouth to respond, but her head suddenly spun, a wave of dizziness overtaking her. She had barely taken two steps when she stumbled, leaning against the bar for support.

"Kendall, I think I need to sit down," Olive said, her voice shaky.

Kendall's teasing expression vanished, replaced by genuine concern. "Olive, are you okay?"

"I don't feel well," Olive replied, her stomach churning. "I think I'm gonna be sick."

Without another word, Kendall's date—Lenny—stumbled off to the dance floor, leaving them both alone. Olive's face flushed with embarrassment. She was supposed to be having fun, but instead, she was falling apart.

After a few minutes of steadying herself, Olive realized she wasn't going to make it through the night. Gabe had noticed her leave the bar area and immediately rushed over.

"Olive, you don't look so good," Gabe said, his concern genuine. "Do you want me to take you back to the hotel?"

Olive nodded gratefully, not wanting to spend another second feeling miserable in front of everyone. The idea of going back to her hotel room, away from the chaos, felt like the only relief she could find.

As they walked toward the exit, Olive's head continued to spin, and the noise of the ballroom faded. She wasn't sure if it was the alcohol or the stress of the evening, but either way, it felt like she had nothing left to give.

"I'm sorry I ruined your night," Olive said softly to Gabe as they stepped outside into the cool New Orleans air.

"No need to apologize," Gabe replied, flashing her a kind smile. "You're more important than a party."

Olive didn't respond, just leaned against him as they made their way to the waiting car.

Meanwhile, back inside, Kendall stood at the bar, watching Olive leave with Gabe. Her lips pressed into a thin line as she sipped her drink, her mind swirling with frustration. Olive had practically ignored her all night, and now she was leaving with Gabe?

As the night wore on, Kendall's frustration grew. Olive had slipped away without a word, and Kendall couldn't shake the feeling that something more was happening than just a case of "not feeling well."

But Olive was gone now, and Kendall was left with the uncomfortable awareness that the distance between them seemed to be growing.
