'Sabine's Pov'
"Watch yourself," Monte said from behind me, I bent down and helped the woman up. She was beautiful, her skin was tinted blue but only slightly, and her hair was black curled softly framing her face. Her eyes were a gorgeous deep blue color and she was slightly taller than me. She had a bruise forming around her eye that bloomed a deep purple and looked to be swelling quickly. "You need to control her, this slave is not for sale." The man spits at Monte, Oliver comes to my side and I turn to see that the carriage is stuck in a ditch on the side of the road where three men were trying to pull it out. "I hate to repeat myself, and it seems you're hard of hearing. Do not disrespect her again." His tone was devoid of all emotions as his shadows peaked over his shoulder.
I turn back to the woman and see that she is staring at the ground avoiding looking at anything or anyone. "How much?" Oliver said she snapped her head up to look at him. I did as well and then turned to the man with my eyes narrowed. "Or we could kill him and the problem would be solved." I hear myself say, not knowing where it came from but not caring. "Y-y-you can't do that! I am a baron of the Aquin court." He stuttered, Oliver laughed and looked him up and down. "Ahh now I know who you are Baron Sky, it seems I am not at court enough for you to recognize me. Prince Oliver Seda," He said his voice sounding noble and a little snotty. "M-m-my Prince, please I apologize for my ignorance. This slave is a runaway from the war in Una, she is wild and is always up to mischief. You would do better with one of my other slaves." I feel my anger rising the more he speaks, I thought only humans were cruel enough to keep slaves but it seems there is cruelty everywhere. "She will be perfect and it seems I will have to speak with my father about you. Sabine, could you please take her to the carriage? I will have Maeve bring you both something to eat." I take the girl's hand and walk her to sit inside of the carriage grab the thick blanket that sat folded in the corner and put it around her shoulders.
"What is your name?" I said, she shivered and pulled the blanket closer to her. "My birth name is Nala but I was given the name Winnifered by Baron Sky." I frown and shake my head taking her hands gently in mine. "You are free, when we get where we are going I will ask Oliver to give you some money or find you a place to live or work. Anything that I can do to help you I will." I said, "My name is Sabine and the shadowy man from before Is Monte." I feel movement under my legs and chuckle when Silver dashes out from under the seat in the carriage. "And this is Silver." He looks at her curiously as if he is trying to figure out who she is. He looks at me and then I feel him going through the events that happened while he was napping. He growls towards the entrance, I lift him sit him in my arms, and sit him on my lap. 'It's alright, Oliver and Monte are taking care of him now.' I said softly to him to calm him, which worked almost instantly. He stops growling and cuddles into my lap, "Miss, I have snacks for you." I hear Layla say, I call her in and she presents them to us in such a grand way that I want to laugh. I used to get my food from a hole in a door, this still feels like I am dreaming.
"Thank you, Miss, I can't express my gratitude or ever pay you back." Nala burst out of silence. I turn to face her with a smile, "The way you can pay me back is by living your life how you want. I hate being controlled and I could only imagine what you've been put through because of something that wasn't your fault." I said she looked at me with tears in her eyes. Before she has a chance to reply Layla comes back with some medicine that smells like mint. "It is for her eye Miss." I smile and thank her, "I can apply it for her if you'd like?" She said looking me in my eyes, I felt a different meaning in her gaze but didn't pay much attention to it. "Please that would be amazing," I said as she applied it I felt the carriage shake a little and I guessed that they'd gotten the carriage out of the ditch. "After she gets that done, why don't you eat and sleep for a while?" I ask, she nods and goes back to being still as Layla rubs the medicine over her bruise.
I watch her bruise slowly disappear, I gasp in awe at the magic dancing over the skin repairing it. I never thought magic was something you'd be able to see, it is so beautiful. Monte comes in moments after Layla leaves and sits on the other side of me. "Are you okay love? You seemed close to snapping back there." I feel my cheeks heat up slightly, I somehow forget that he is able to feel what I feel. "Yes I am alright, I just hate seeing people like that. His entitlement is the exact reason he shouldn't be in a position of power." I said, "Well he won't be anyone's problem, I took care of him and Oliver is having to of his guards travel back to his estate and get the other slaves he has. Oliver is against slavery, I'll let him explain why but his father is the issue in this sense." I frown and try to imagine an older Oliver but I can't picture it in my head. "Well this is Nala, Nala this is Monte," I said, I watched them look at each other. I watch as her eyes take in all of him and watch as he seems to look at her once and then look at me. For some reason, I don't feel any jealousy as I watch her look at him with interest.
"Have you decided what you wish to do?" He asks her, I feel Silver stirring awake and watch him move to lay in Monte's lap. "I do not know honestly, I never hoped to get away. I always thought he'd kill me and didn't dare hope for more. The only skill I have is as a cleaning maid, which isn't in high demand." I think for a moment about what she said, hating the thought of her losing all hope other than death. "I can't promise much especially when it comes to money but If you want you can be one of my ladies' maids. Oliver said we were going to look for some and I figured since he said some he meant more than just Layla." I said she looked as if she was going to cry again. " Just think about it you don't have to make a decision right now, just eat and sleep," I said, she nodded before digging into the snacks that Layla brought. "Are you ready? I hope I didn't keep you waiting long." Oliver said, coming into the carriage and sitting on the other side of Monte giving Nala room to sit.
"You didn't take long at all. Are you alright?" I ask as I notice a little bit of sweat dripping in between his eyebrows. "Yes, I just don't have the strength that Monte has, and the carriage is pretty heavy." I giggle slightly before reaching and tapping his muscle, which although smaller than Monte's, still felt huge in my hands. "I like your strength," I said flirtasiously. He grins wildly at me, "Hmm well you can touch me anywhere and anytime you'd like love," I blush slightly under his gaze. "We're only an hour or so away, I think we will stay at an inn until they finish preparing our rooms at my other estate." I am guessing an inn is like a hotel.
"Have you decided what you want to do?" He asked Nala, "Well Miss Sabine offered me to work as her ladies' maid and I believe that is what I want to do." She replies, "I told you you can think about it more, I won't be able to pay you." I said, Monte laughed and Oliver joined in. "Baby you'll never have to worry about money with either of us around. I lived in the palace with my unit and I don't spend money on myself, anything and everything I have is yours." Monte said I frowned, "I don't wanna take your money it feels wrong." I said, " Money is nothing compared to being able to speak with you, look at you, and fall in love with you. Just being near you settles my soul and if you let me take care of you I promise I'll make sure you never feel guilty about accepting it." He said, as he spoke he pulled me closer to him and gripped my face in his hand. My heart felt like it was expanding with each word he spoke.
"I wish I could give such a grand speech but I am not gifted with my words in that way." Oliver chuckled but when I looked at him I could see that he was slightly embarrassed. "I can say that what's mine is yours I have more than enough money to spare." He said with a charming smile. I move so I am sitting next to him and stretch up to kiss him on the cheek. "Thank you both." Oliver pulls me so I am tucked under his arm. "Why don't you relax a little for a little until we get there." That sounded like a good plan to me.
