'Sabine's Pov'
We'd only been on the road for a little while when I felt Silver licking my face. His emotions came through loud and clear, he wanted to shift back to his original form. "It's alright he can come out and run with me, I'll make sure he is okay," Oliver said, I gave a sleepy nod as I sat up completely. He gave me a quick kiss before taking Silver and leaving the carriage. Layla looked at me with a tiny smile which I returned, Nala was sitting furthest from me but that didn't stop her from staring at me. "Are you okay Nala?" I said she seemed to snap out of whatever trance she was in. "I'm alright, I was just daydreaming." She said, I hum but don't comment.
Moving towards the window I peered out to see where we were, though I knew I wouldn't recognize anything unless we were going back to Oliver's estate. The sky was a much darker shade of red than it was before but still, there was no sun or moon in sight. "Miss, I prepared some snacks for you." Layla said, "That's so sweet of you but I am alright for now." I said, I noticed Nala staring again but said nothing this time. I had a feeling the look on her face wasn't a daydreaming look. I knew she had to be overwhelmed and I felt bad for not checking in with her. "Nala, wanna sit next to me for a bit?" I said, she seemed shocked but eagerly moved, I almost felt as if I'd seen Layla flinch but chose to ignore it.
"How are you handling everything?" I questioned, she turned so she was facing me before answering. " Everyone has been so helpful and nice to me." I tilted my head and gave her a knowing look. "That isn't what I asked, you can tell me honestly," I said she hesitated for a second. "I don't know how to explain it, I feel so out of place." She said, "I completely understand that, before I came here I was treated as a science experiment. Often starved and treated worse than dirt and then I was thrust into a new world where I am somebody to someone, or should I say people. I am here for you, you aren't alone and no matter what your status is we are friends first and I'll listen if you want to talk." I said she smiled and I watched in fascination as bright blue tears slid down her cheeks.
"I have never had friends, my last master kept me away from others and when I was around others they often used me to climb higher in our little servant society." I took her hands in mine as she started to open up to me. "I was only a child during the war, they'd taken all of the women from Una and used them as slaves, and the men were slaughtered. My mother and I were together when I was first taken but before long we were sold to different masters and I was alone. The Una people were strong and people of solitude, I remember when I started school how they explained why we water nymphs were different from others, we are-" She stopped mid-sentence and I felt her sadness as if it were my own in that moment. " Were the only race able to communicate with the god of the sea, a great water dragon? The first water dragon, he'd blessed my people who'd descended from him and his first lover, the goddess Una. I've always wanted to take pride in my people, my culture, something so amazing and beautiful is lost." I had moved over to pull her into my arms as she spoke, I could tell that this was her first time speaking these words aloud to anyone.
"When we get to a stable place I promise we will celebrate your culture even if it's just us writing down your history or finding more about it," I said, her eyes widening. "Una culture is forbidden to be spoken of in public or recorded in records miss." Layla said, "I don't give a flying shit about some old dumb rule that suppresses people because of their race." I said Nala was now looking up at me like I'd just shit stars. "You are allowed to speak as much as you want about your culture around me honey. No matter who else is around, " I said, pressing my palm on her cheek subconsciously. Her eyes were so bright and beautiful that I couldn't help but lean forward into her, when our lips pressed together a sense of rightness washed over me like she was a missing part of me. She didn't shy away from me, though her kiss was too slightly sloppy, she was eager and her lips were pillowy soft. She sat up so we were pressed closer to one another, her breast pressed against mine though our clothes separated us it didn't do much other than make me wish I could feel her skiing against mine.
A throat cleared making us jump apart, we hadn't noticed Monte slipping into the carriage. His eyes held so much heat and I felt how much he liked what he saw through our bond. "Hmm, I only came in to let you know that we will be there within the hour." I nod and turn to see Nala's cheeks turning a pretty shade of pink which made her blue skin even more beautiful. "I will ride with Maeve if that is alright with you miss," Layla said she had an angry look on her face but before I could answer she slipped out of the carriage.
Monte winked at me before slipping out of the carriage behind her. "I am sorry if I made you uncomfortable," I said, she looked at me in shock before letting out an adorable laugh. "I was just about to say that same thing to you, I have never kissed a woman before." I smiled, "Neither have I, you are just so beautiful I couldn't help myself." I said, her blush spreads covering more of her face. "You seem to keep taking the words out of my mouth." She said flirtatiously, "So I was wondering if you'd allow me to court you?" I said, courting her meant that eventually, she'd be mine. From what everyone has told me it sounds like pre-dating. "You want to court me?" She said, "I am nothing but a slave." I frown before taking her hands in mine. "You are no longer a slave and I am no longer the messed up black girl from nowhere. Whatever my status is in this new crazy world, your status will be, I don't know how to reassure you that I will be here for you so I'll just show you." I said, she made me want to care for her and be there for her and I knew that I was going to stick to my word and give her anything I could.
She was teary-eyed while listening to my speech and the small bond that I felt with Oliver and Monte in the beginning started to form between me and her. "I would love to be courted by you, but only if I can court you as well. As you said I don't have much to offer either but my loyalty is something no one has and I want to give it to you to show how serious I am" She said, her eyes never leaving mine. I give her a peck on the lips, I pull away with a smile on my face. "Why don't we take a nap for the rest of the ride." She said, she moved so we were both cuddled up in a corner and in seconds we were both off to dreamland.
'Asha's Pov'
"I don't care!" I yelled at the four men sitting at my table. "This girl could ruin everything we've built, I want to know how she got our best soldiers to follow her to who knows where." I glared at the dumbasses that call themselves my husbands. "We told you to wait until our other guards got back before sending Saint away but insisted. Your little crush on him clouded your judgment, you'd think by now that you, a queen, wouldn't allow another to have such hold over you." King Melevin said from his seat on the other side of the room. I felt the flame inside of me ready to come out and burn the obnoxious man to bits but held off.
"We don't even know if she is who we are looking for, she might just be a disgusting mixed breed who escaped when we did the cleansing." One of his generals said I rolled my eyes. "She seduced our shadow and connected with a fucking dragon and a Fenrir, you truly believe she isn't the one sent by the gods to take what is ours," I said, they did not see reason I knew I'd have to do this myself or else I'd be the last queen from my family line. "If she is then of course we need to find her but as you've said she had our best men on her side we need to find a way to anticipate where they will be next." Titus, the smarter of husbands finally speaks. "An oracle?" Kore, another of my husbands said, "They do not speak to the council after the cleansing, they claim that the gods forbid them from aiding us." I said, "Ah but I have one under lock and key. I shall have her brought here at once." King Rivo said, I smiled and sat back in my seat. "This girl will not take over this council, she won't take my title as queen."
